The open sessions are a space to hand build or throw ceramics through your own creative projects. One class is a super quick taster so the finishing of the piece (glaze) will be done by the teacher unless you book another open session to finish. All materials and tools provided. Have you ever encountered clay in your backyard? By a beach or a river? Have you wondered how to use it and fire it?In this course we will connect with the wild, simple and ritualistic aspect of ceramics. Day 1: Clay in its natural context. How to recognise it, extract it and prepare it into a clay body. We will prepare clay and start handbuilding an object.Day 2: We will continue to work on our piece. We'll use simple tools such as spoons, shells, seeds, sticks, stones to mold, decorate and burnish.Day 3: We'll wood fire our pieces.Day 4: We'll water proof our pieces with beeswax and you'll take your creation home.****Limited places - 8 personsPlease secure your spot by making a desposit and let me know at nativatreasures@gmail.comAccount # 1009 4879 BSB 062844 We will base our ceramic practice on native South American ceramic techniques. Ceramic maraca/shaker workshop - Kids and families
In this workshop we will do a ceramic rattle - a little maraca animal, person or creature- to shake our rhythm out! The native people of America where great masters of ceramic sound instruments. In this workshop we will be inspired by their legacy. We will work on the rattle and decorate it during the 2hr workshop. The rattles will be fired when dry and will be ready to pick up or post (with additional charge) a couple of weeks after the workshop. Kids from 3 to 8 years old should come with an accompanying adult.
