Flu Vaccination + vaccination record card check:(Information provided by your occupational health physician, IBG)1. GENERAL INFORMATION“Viral Flu” (Influenza) is a serious illness caused by influenza viruses. The symptoms include high fever, but – particularly in the case of weaker persons – can develop into pneumonia, inflammation of the heart muscle, of the nerves or of the brain. Transmission most often takes place through inhaling tiny infected airborne droplets. What does the vaccination protect you against?Against the already identified “seasonal flu” (= influenza or real flu). As in Austria an estimated 1000 people die from real influenza every year it makes good sense to have yourself vaccinated against it.What does it NOT offer protection against?Against flu-like infections (“colds”) and not against COVID-192. THE PROTECTIVE VACCINATIONAs viral strains modify and change all the time, every year a new vaccine is developed and made available. Protection is built up within a period of 1-2 weeks and lasts for at least 6 months. Apart from slight pain at the injection point, reactions to the vaccination such as headaches, slight fever or joint pains are, in fact, very rare.3. WHO SHOULD BE VACCINATED?Ideally all persons, in particular smokers and those with numerous customer contacts. In the past few years especially infants and young adults fell ill, so immunisation protection ist very important. Elderly people (from the age of 60) and the chronically ill too are particularly at risk and therefore should be vaccinated. You should not be suffering from a cold when you go to be vaccinated. Caution is advised in the case of persons with an allergy to chicken protein!
