Die Steuerung geschieht durch das Aktivieren des Sympathikus (im Sinne der Anspannung) und des Parasympathikus (im Sinne der Erholung). Verantwortlich für das Beschleunigen oder Entschleunigen des Herzschlages ist das autonome Nervensystem (Shaffer et al., 2014; McCraty & Shaffer, 2015). Sie errechnet sich aus den millisekundengenauen Abständen zwischen den einzelnen Herzschlägen eines Menschen. Je variabler der Herzschlag, desto gesünder der Organismus.
