In der heutigen Ernährung haben wir meistens einen starken Überschuss an entzündungsfördernden Omega-6-Fettsäuren und einen Mangel an entzündungshemmenden Omega-3-Fettsäuren.Die Omega-3-Fettsäuren EPA und DHA senken den Blutdruck, verbessern die kognitive Funktion, wirken entzündungshemmend und schmerzlindernd und reduzieren das Risiko für ganz verschiedene Erkrankungen.Bevor sich die Ernährungsgewohnheiten so stark verändert haben und die Menschen einen hohen Anteil an industriell veränderten Lebensmitteln gegessen haben, war es normal, dass man ein Verhältnis von Omega-6 zu Omega-3 von 1:1 im Körper hatte. Wenn man heute Messungen dazu durchführt, liegt das Verhältnis im Durchschnitt bei 15:1, also deutlich mehr Omega-6 als Omega-3. Omega-3 kommt in Form der hochwertigen Fettsäuren EPA und DHA ausschließlich in maritimen Quellen vor, also in Mikroalgen und Fischen.
