El examen consiste en una evaluación optométrica exhaustiva mediante la cual obtenemos información sobre las diferentes áreas implicadas en el procesamiento de la información visual. La percepción es la apreciación de la realidad a través de los sentidos. Considerando que el sistema visual aporta el 80% de la información sensorial, el procesamiento de la información visual es clave para el entendimiento del mundo. Los reflejos primitivos son movimientos involuntarios y automáticos que deben integrarse durante los primeros años de vida, para que se desarrollen los reflejos posturales y para que, estos reflejos retenidos, no afecten en el aprendizaje del niño. Los reflejos retenidos se pueden integrar a cualquier edad a través de una buena terapia de integración de reflejos primitivos o Terapia de Movimientos Rítmicos (TMR).

A Functional Assessment is the evaluation of a patient before he or she embarks on a physical rehabilitation programme. It involves taking a history from the owner and assessing the animal's posture, demeanour, gait and condition of the neuro-muscular and musculo-skeletal systems.

This is a physical rehabilitation treatment which may include various different modalities. Your animal must have undergone a Functional Assessment before these appointments can be booked.

An Underwater Treadmill Treatment involves the dog going into a glass tank that fills with water to the appropriate height for that specific dog. Within the glass tank there is a treadmill belt.  We can control the speed of the treadmill as well as vary the height of the water, introduce inclines and jets to challenge the dog when appropriate.  We use the properties of water, i.e. buoyancy, resistance, cohesion and surface tension to off-load arthritic and/or painful joints and to improve muscle tone and bulk in the supporting muscles.  Underwater Treadmill Treatment is also excellent for weight loss and gait re-training. Only dogs who have undergone a Functional Assessment may book for an Underwater Treadmill treatment.  Although the sessions are booked for 45 minutes, we will only work the dog at the level of difficulty that is appropriate for him or her on the day.

Ear wax removal can be performed by either irrigation or microsuction. Both methods are safe and efficient and are carried out by our expert audiologist.

Irrigation is most commonly used by GP surgeries, and in this procedure the wax is washed out of your ear with water. You might have heard this method being called "syringing" (although no syringes are involved!).

Microsuction involves a small tip being inserted into your ear canal and the wax being "vacuumed" out. It is often a quicker method than irrigation, but can be much noisier.

During your appointment your audiologist will examine your ears and will discuss your symptoms with you. They will also talk to you about any relevant medical history and will discuss the most suitable method of wax removal with you.

After your ears are clear your audiologist will continue to perform a thorough health check on your ears and hearing system to ensure that everything is healthy and working well.
