We're able to give the Chicken Pox Vaccine to adults and children. Most cases of chicken pox resolve without issue, but some people are left with scars. It poses a greater risk to unborn children, and at the very least causes inconvenience when children have to have time off school. Some of our customers have vaccinated their children to reduce the risk of cancelling a special holiday.

Blood pressure check.

Blood pressure monitoring is now free of charge for anyone over 40 years of age who is NOT already on blood pressure medication. For anyone else we charge £5 for the staff time taken. 

Appointments available to avoid disappointment, but walk in's accepted. 

High blood pressure increases your risk of further complications, even if it does not make you feel unwell. Our blood pressure machine will also be able to pick up on some common heart rate anomalies.

There are many reasons why women may buy contraceptive tablets through our pharmacy instead of getting them on a prescription. You do not need an appointment to do so, but you will need to answer some questions so you may as well reserve some time with the pharmacist in the privacy of the consultation room.

What is in these tablets?

Norethisterone is the active ingredient which mimics the female hormone progesterone. It is useful for when you may want to delay your period until after a wedding or a holiday.

How does it work?

A period is triggered by a drop in progesterone levels during a woman’s menstrual cycle. Norethisterone works by artificially maintaining a woman’s progesterone levels which prevents triggering a period.

When do I need to take it?

Norethisterone treatment should be started three days before you expect your period to begin. It must be taken three times a day for as long as you want to delay your period. You can delay your period for a maximum of 27 days. To restart your menstrual cycle you should stop taking the treatment day or two before you want to have your period.

Norethisterone should not be used more regularly than every four months. 

Norethisterone is not a contraceptive and should not be used as one.

It will not stop you from becoming pregnant.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding?

Norethisterone alters your hormone levels. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should not take Norethisterone.

A shingles vaccine is available on the NHS for :

people who turned 65 on or after 1 September 2023

people aged 70 to 79

people aged 50 and over with a severely weakened immune system

There are two shingles vaccines, both of which are available through us.

Pre-exposure immunisation for those who are at an increased risk of hepatitis B virus infection because of their lifestyle or occupation.

(please note that HEP B vaccines are also available for travel purposes through our travel clinic)

COST PER DOSE IS £49 AND THREE DOSES ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE COURSE, SO THE TOTAL COURSE WILL COST £147.

The quickest schedule is given on days 0, 7 and day 21. 

The intervals need to be maintained, so if your second dose is pushed back, so must the third one to maintain the interval.

A further dose is needed at 12 months, unless the longest schedule is used which is 0, 1 and 6 months (people rarely have the luxury of time for this option)

A single vaccination provides life-long protection against Yellow Fever. 

Alex will carry out an assessment to make sure it is advisable for you to have this vaccine.

After vaccination we will provide the internationally recognised certification needed for entry into some countries. If it is deemed inappropriate for you to receive the vaccination and you are still visiting a yellow fever risk area, then Alex will consider offering an exemption letter to present to border control. If this is the case then £20 of the fee will be retained to cover time taken. 

If you require certification re-issuing as it has been lost, and therefore do not require vaccination, we can re-issue certificates if sufficient evidence is presented e.g. GP vaccination record. We will then only retain £20 of the £80 fee.
