This course is accredited by Public Health Scotland.You will develop effective listening skills, gain the confidence and tools to open up conversations about mental health and suicide, and learn about various mental health conditions.The course includes:guidance on being a Mental Health First Aiderattitudes to mental health issuesequalitiesthe recovery messagethe impact of alcohol and drugs on mental healthintroduction to suicide interventionlistening skillsunderstanding depressionhow to offer first aid to someone experiencing depressionunderstanding anxietyhow to offer first aid to someone experiencing anxietyunderstanding psychosishow to offer first aid to someone experiencing a psychotic episode.Note: The course does not train people to be mental health workers. It offers basic general information about mental health problems. The knowledge presented and understanding developed in the course helps to remove stigma and fear and to give confidence in approaching a person in distress. Mental Health First Aid is an initial response to distress and all participants on the course understand that this help is given only until other suitable or professional help can be found.The session will be facilitated by Lynn Pilkington, This is Milk - Inclusion and Engagement Consultant, and Chris Grant, Change Maker and Parkour Coach.Join us to learn how to talk about mental health and to gain confidence supporting a person in distress.
