Lip filler is a treatment that involves carefully injecting a gel like substance into the lips
to add volume, improve symmetry, define the cupid’s bow and smooth fine lines.
It contains of hyaluronic acid which helps retain moisture for a more hydrated appearance. This is naturally found in the body, meaning no patch test is required. Lidocaine is also contained in the filler, a numbing agent to help minimise discomfort.
A topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied prior to treatment to further improve your comfort throughout the procedure. Results typically last 6-12 months before a touch up may be needed, depending on factors such as sun exposure, metabolism, hydration levels, and physical activity.
This treatment is not suitable when taking any prescription blood thinners and any over the counter medication that affects blood thinning like aspirin or ibuprofen.
Common side effects may include mild bleeding, redness, bruising, and swelling which typically settles within a few days. In rare cases, more serious complications can occur including blockage of a blood vessel
(vascular occlusion) , tissue damage (necrosis), or infection (abscess). To minimise risk it is so important that any unusual symptoms such as increasing pain, skin discolouration (especially blanching) or excessive bruising are reported to injector immediately to assess ASAP, as dissolving the filler may be required to prevent further complications.
