Etching uses acid to create marks on a metal plate, which is then inked and printed through a press. You will learn the fundamentals of etching and experiment using soft grounds, hard grounds and aquatint to produce richly textured images. Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th April 2026, 10am - 5pm. £210 / £178.50 concession (applied at checkout)Using drypoint techniques, this course provides opportunities to explore line and tone using drypoint plastic plates. Following a series of demonstrations, your tutor Greg will discuss how he uses the techniques within his own printmaking practice. There will be time allocated to create your own prints and experiment with the techniques. Using tools to draw onto the plates, tone will be explored using carborundum and you will experiment with inking and plate wiping techniques. Over the duration of the course, you will prepare up to three plates and learn how to print them using the Rochat etching press in the professional workshop.
