Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat a wide variety of complaints and to maintain well being.How does it work and what effects does it have?Acupuncture stimulates the body to heal itself. Research has shown pain relief correlates to increased endorphins in cerebrospinal fluid – showing that the body has manufactured its own ‘opiates’ for pain relief and healing. There may be changes in temperature and muscle tone. Generally there is a ‘normalising’ effect so that if a person is tense they will relax and a person who is lethargic will feel more energised. Many people can reduce or stop their pain medications as symptoms resolve. Acupuncture heals anyone, including  animals. The million dollar race horses have acupuncture as they heal faster, without drugs ( and side effects) and they love it.  Who would benefit? Just about anyone will feel better after acupuncture. Some people like to use it for relaxation and general well being. What conditions can be treated?Acute and chronic pain such as neck pain and back pain, Muscle and tendon injuries,Headaches, sinusitis, hay fever,Depression and anxiety and stress, Insomnia, digestive issues and Weight lossFertility and Period painPregnancy: Morning sickness – very safe, no drugs. the nausea often stops or greatly reduces in the first session and usually within a few sessions. Acupuncture has been used to turn breech babies and for those Mums who are overdue it may be used to bring on labour and thus avoid 'the 'drip' Clients often alternate between Acupuncture and physio for timely and balanced recoveryIs it safe?Lesley uses the finest Japanese needles. They are sterile and single use only. Many people are surprised at how pleasant it is. Most of the time needle insertion is painless. 

Lesley started in private practice at Central Wollongong Physio in 1989 with an special interest in chronic pain. (Lesley had previously been studying Psychology in Canada) She worked at Port Kembla Hospital Physiotherapy Dept. mainly in orthopaedics ( inpatient and outpatient) and rehabilitation.Lesley became interested in an holistic view of pain management and the NSW government allowed Lesley to undertake training in Hypnosis to use for pain relief.Since then Lesley has undertaken much post graduate training including Acupuncture in 1998. She is also a Clinical Nutritionist (UNE 2003) and Clinical Hypnotherapist (Melbourne 2013) Lesley treats acute anc chronic problems such as backs, necks, knees etc., however some people have pains that standard treatments just scratch the surface of. The connection between the mind and body is fascinating.  For example, depressions or grief may reignite old, long forgotten pains. We may address multiple areas of pain with acupuncture or in some cases hypnosis. The Teal Flame Healing Centre is a place for holistic healing and has other like minded practitioners and classes. We have Massage therapy, Yoga Reiki and Meditation to name a few modalities used.
