A Functional Assessment is the evaluation of a patient before he or she embarks on a physical rehabilitation programme. It involves taking a history from the owner and assessing the animal's posture, demeanour, gait and condition of the neuro-muscular and musculo-skeletal systems.

This is a physical rehabilitation treatment which may include various different modalities. Your animal must have undergone a Functional Assessment before these appointments can be booked.

An Underwater Treadmill Treatment involves the dog going into a glass tank that fills with water to the appropriate height for that specific dog. Within the glass tank there is a treadmill belt.  We can control the speed of the treadmill as well as vary the height of the water, introduce inclines and jets to challenge the dog when appropriate.  We use the properties of water, i.e. buoyancy, resistance, cohesion and surface tension to off-load arthritic and/or painful joints and to improve muscle tone and bulk in the supporting muscles.  Underwater Treadmill Treatment is also excellent for weight loss and gait re-training. Only dogs who have undergone a Functional Assessment may book for an Underwater Treadmill treatment.  Although the sessions are booked for 45 minutes, we will only work the dog at the level of difficulty that is appropriate for him or her on the day.

Private appointments are one-on-one acupuncture treatments. This acupuncture treatment may also include moxibustion and dietary recommendations. Please allocate approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes for your initial appointment. Please arrive no more than 5 minutes early to fill out the intake forms. Please select this option if this your first time visiting Gathered Roots or it has been more than 6 months since your last appointment.

Private one-on-one acupuncture treatment. This acupuncture treatment may also include moxibustion and dietary recommendations. Please allocate approximately 1 hour for subsequent treatments. Please select this option if it has been less than 6 months since your last appointment.

This combination includes an acupuncture treatment and a 10-15 minute tui na massage. Tui na is the ancient Chinese style of massage focusing on the meridians and acupressure points on the body. Please allocate approximately 1 hour for this appointment.
