Just as a sports coach helps an athlete develop her athletic skills and strategies, a learning coach helps a student develop his study skills and strategies for success in the classroom.团队组成

Karen Hodges- Learning Coach
Karen Hodges is a member of SPSFNWA’s Community Council and a former SPSFNWA board member. She has worked as a faculty member and academic administrator at both NWACC (16 years) and the University of Arkansas (18 years). She just retired January 3, allowing her to volunteer her time to do what she loves to do – help students succeed. When she was the Executive Director of Academic Success at the university, she began and directed a learning coach program so has seen first-hand the benefits of academic coaching (as in students graduating!) Karen holds a PhD in English, which she is proud to say she earned while a single parent!

Learning Coach Services
During the first session, the learning coach will ask the student a series of questions to understand the student’s largest challenges academically and will begin helping the student chart a game plan for success. Thereafter the sessions will focus on what the student says are immediate needs, such as studying for a particular type of test, taking notes in class, reading a difficult textbook, staying motivated, and/or juggling all that needs to be done in a do-able time management plan.
