You never know what you’re gonna get.” Life is full of surprises, the ones that bring a smile on your face and the ones that are not as pleasant, that we can call adversities. Yet, when faced with adversities, it takes great courage to think outside of the box, and to seek answers. Therapy is here to remind you that your story is meaningful, and you are strong and resilient. You matter. What you are experiencing does not define you, you do, every step of the way.

I center my practice on the belief that we are each storytellers of our lives, and we shape and create what is meaningful to us. Therapy can be a strong tool that can be used like a compass to explore what matters to you, and what you can do about it. If you are seeking a change or going through a transition, if you are coping with daily struggles and feel trapped in a repetitive cycle, and are looking for a way to live a more joyful and free life, I am here to embark on this journey with you.

As a psychotherapist, I am committed to providing a supportive, safe and judgment free environment where you feel safe to explore your present and past concerns. I have years of experience in working in the areas of management of depression, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, interpersonal effectiveness, self-esteem, and overall growth and life fulfillment. I will offer a safe space where you can be your true self, and to explore becoming a more authentic version of yourself. My approach entails an integrative and humanistic model, where we will explore what is important to you. My diverse work background helps me gain a deep understanding of a wide range of mental health challenges, symptomatologies, and different treatment modalities. My clinical practice focuses primarily on working with adults to address unresolved issues from the past or present, better understand the causes of problems and identify patterns, develop better self-awareness and self-acceptance, and to form healthier relationships to increase the quality of your life. My approach is trauma-informed and relational and I incorporate CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based strategies. From the first session, we will work together to explore what areas you wish to address, and we will explore how therapy can be helpful. We will answer any questions you must have about therapy.

I am a registered psychotherapist and my career background involves years of working with adults who suffered from different types of trauma-related issues, and emotional dysregulation, and I had the opportunity to help them gain relief from anxiety and depression symptoms. I have worked in multiple mental health settings, including Madison Community Services where I had the chance to support adults who were transitioning from CAMH inpatient mental health program into semi-independent living, and working at Counseling and Healing Services where I worked with adults of all ages and cultural and ethnic backgrounds to help them overcome their mental stress caused by motor vehicle accidents. I also worked with adolescents at Peel District School Board and I led a support group to help them with assimilation and understanding their mental health. I have also assisted with teaching at Adler Graduate School of Psychology in Toronto. Previous to that, I volunteered in mental health settings as I always held the strong belief that mental health is health, and we need to make it more accessible to our general public.

My languages of care include English, French, and Farsi. Whichever your emotional language is, I am here to support you in that language.

Therapy can seem intimidating, but it is an important step toward better mental health that affects every aspect of our lives. It takes strength, courage and commitment to acknowledge that there are aspects of yourself and your life that you would like to change. Through this process, you can attain a better understanding of yourself, your experiences and how contexts have shaped these experiences. The therapy I provide focuses on women’s mental health and the challenges with self-doubt, anxiety, depression, self-worth, perfectionism, in relationships and at school or work that many women experience.

In our first session together, we will discuss the concerns that have brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping to gain from it. We will then work together to understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, including how they developed because they made sense in some way in the past. We will look at whether or not they are helpful now and if they are not, explore how to respond to them more effectively. This might include trying to change them or identifying new ways of coping with them. Therapy will also focus on building a healthy sense of self-worth by recognizing your strengths and fostering a sense of self-compassion for difficulties.

I value working in a way that is empathetic, supportive and authentic. I believe it is important to work from a strengths-based perspective and to explore how you have coped with challenges in the past, in ways you might not even be aware of, and to notice progress you are making in the work we are doing. I combine different approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural, Acceptance and Commitment, Dialectical Behavioural, Modern Psychodynamic, Self-Compassion and Mindfulness-Based therapies based on the needs of each client.

I completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto and have completed a Master’s degree in Applied Social Psychology, which have given me extensive knowledge in how to recognize, understand and treat mental health concerns. I have practiced therapy at the Medical Centre for Person-Centred Psychotherapy, the University of Toronto – OISE Psychology Clinic and in private practice. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a member of the Ontario Association for Mental Health Professionals.

Deciding to seek therapy is a courageous first step, and takes a level of vulnerability and commitment that I don’t take for granted. This decision likely means that despite how hard doing the work in therapy can be… whatever challenge you’ve been facing has become even harder. Whether the negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviours you’re experiencing are new and unfamiliar, or have been affecting your life for years, building effective coping skills, self-understanding, and personal growth are all possible here. It has been a privilege of mine to collaborate with clients in their journey towards feeling better, and feeling like themselves again.

I work with individuals who experience stress, depression, anxiety, or health-related issues. I specialize in the psychotherapeutic treatment of anxiety-related disorders and symptoms, including: Generalized anxiety and excessive worry, social anxiety, health anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia, intolerance of uncertainty, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive traits/OCD. I also have a great interest and experience in helping clients with negative thoughts and emotions, depression, avoidance, attentional difficulties, perfectionism, coping with workplace stressors and burnout, difficulties with relationships, health behaviour change (e.g., exercise, smoking cessation, chronic disease management, etc.), and adjusting to major life transitions.

I have a person-centered approach to therapy, and offer empathy, acceptance, collaboration, and genuineness through our therapeutic relationship. Research has shown that regardless of type of therapy, client factors, length of treatment, etc. –the most profound factor that positively influences client treatment outcomes is the therapeutic relationship. I primarily work from a cognitive-behavioural framework to help understand and address how your thoughts (cognitions), feelings (emotions) and behaviours are interconnected to one another and perpetuate your main symptoms or concerns. The therapeutic relationship creates a strong foundation in which we can work together to understand the root of your distress or symptoms, and implement evidence-based CBT strategies and tools to help challenge your negative or unhelpful thoughts, improve your mood or anxiety levels, and learn how to cope with discomfort or fear. I also draw from other third-wave evidence-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing as needed to tailor the psychotherapy treatment to your specific preferences, needs, and treatment goals.

During our first session together, the main goal is simply to get to know you and begin to build a safe space where you can feel comfortable, respected, and heard. At whatever pace feels best for you, I ask questions that help paint a picture of your present mental health concerns, how they impact your life, and what you hope to achieve in therapy. I will go a comprehensive assessment, asking you specific questions of your life, your history, and your current difficulties, to help bring us both to an understanding of the root of your distress or symptoms, and ultimately find the best way to address your concerns with psychotherapeutic treatment. In following sessions and throughout our work together, we will collaborate on identifying your treatment goals, setting the pace and format of the treatment sessions, and troubleshooting roadblocks with curiosity rather than shame. I will also guide you in exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and learning several relevant skills and strategies to help you cope with or overcome unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and replace them with positive, helpful ones. In CBT, sessions are goal-oriented, and present-focused to efficiently guide you towards where you want to be, develop your own toolkit of coping skills, and eventually help you become your own therapist.

I completed a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy from McMaster University, and a Master’s degree specializing in Sport, Exercise, and Health Psychology from McGill University.  My history of clinical services and modalities include providing psychotherapy at the Anxiety Treatment & Research Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, health behavior change counselling through McGill University, and mental performance consulting through McGill University Athletics and the Baseball Academy in Sudbury, ON.

Having both qualitative and quantitative research experience in my academic background, I consider myself a lifelong learner who values the importance of evidence-based practice and staying up to date with the current literature. I hold professional memberships with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals and the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies.

Taking the first steps toward positive change can be unnerving, and I would be honoured to take your first steps towards becoming your best self with you. Together we can navigate the difficult and painful experiences that life can bring you.

In our early sessions, there will be a focus on building a trusting relationship where we will establish your goals, and understand your current concerns at a pace that is comfortable for you. We will develop a treatment plan to best meet your psychological needs, and or answer some of the fundamental questions about your mental health, to lead you forward. Throughout therapy, I aim to provide a relationship that is based on compassion, empathy, genuineness, and authentic engagement, to help you reach your full potential. 

During treatment, you can expect a warm relationship built on trust, understanding and genuine interest in your life experience. I draw on numerous evidence-based therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural, humanistic, biopsychosocial and attachment-based modalities to conceptualize and form an understanding of your current needs, from an integrative perspective. I take an integrative approach to working through client concerns, in this way, our approach can be tailored to suit you and your concerns in a way that best works for you.

I have experience treating clients who are facing a wide variety of concerns including anxiety disorders, trauma, mood disorders, grief, low self-esteem, addiction, divorce and personality disorders, and I hope that my experience and empathy can be used to help you. 

I use Cognitive behavioural approaches like dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) during treatment to address your symptoms. I also believe that using a client centred approach throughout treatment; humanistic therapies, primarily client centred therapy is pivotal in helping me understand your worldview and specific problems. During our sessions together, I will continue to check in with you and update your treatment plan as necessary.

I am currently a qualifying member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, working under the supervision of Dr. Marc Bedard, C.Psych. I currently hold a Masters in Counselling Psychology  from Yorkville University and have a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Kent. I have also earned an Honors Bachelors degree in Socio-cultural Anthropology from the University of Toronto. I am also a member of the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists. 

I have had the experience and the privilege of working with diverse communities with various mental health problems within clinical settings, including crisis work. My interest in the human experience and my motivation to help others has allowed me to continuously learn and review the most recent scientific literature on counselling psychology.  I have experience in with working with clients from different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds and with the LGBTQ2S+ community. Coming from a diverse background myself, I would love to work and learn about your unique and special story.

Welcome to CFIR. Embarking on a journey of self-discovery and healing can be both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I understand that each individual’s experience is unique, and I deeply honor the trust you place in seeking support. I work with those who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, disordered eating, body image and complex trauma. Recognizing and seeking help for these challenges is a profound act of self-care. I believe in the importance of cultural humility, recognizing that every individual brings their own unique experiences shaped by culture, community, and personal beliefs. Together, we can explore the paths that lead to a deeper understanding and a more fulfilling life. I am currently a Master of Psychology student at Adler Graduate Professional School. At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, I am completing a practicum under the supervision of Dr. Jean Kim, C. Psych.

I have great interest in navigating the balance between individualistic desires and collective values. Using a person-centered, integrative and trauma-informed approach, I’ll guide you in uncovering how your past shapes your present beliefs and habits. My interest also lies in experiential therapy, which uses direct experiences to understand emotional challenges.

Currently, I’m undertaking a practicum at the Peel District School Board, where I am administering psychoeducational assessments to students. In previous roles, I garnered invaluable experience working with children on the spectrum as an Instructor Therapist. Beyond clinical settings, I founded a non-profit in Sri Lanka, dedicated to aiding tribal communities reintegrate into society, emphasizing educational support and mental health service access. Notably, I independently conducted social research at Yellow Brick House, focusing on minority women’s experiences during the pandemic, specifically exploring the nuances of intimate partner violence, narcissistic behaviors, and the implications of enabling family dynamics.

I have gained experience working in multiple psychotherapy settings in Canada as well as in Switzerland, assisting individuals coping with depression, anxiety, general stress and burnout, obsessive-compulsive disorder, interpersonal and relational challenges, and low self-esteem. Utilising an integrative approach, I draw on several therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Through an integrative approach, I aim to tailor treatments to your specific needs and concerns. A supportive atmosphere where one can be heard, understood, and accepted allows for growth and optimal living. In my clinical work, I offer an empathic, safe, and non-judgmental atmosphere for clients to explore their experiences and better understand both their difficulties and strengths.

Initially in the first few sessions, I will ask about the challenges you are hoping to address in therapy, and we will explore the context and history of these struggles.  We may also utilize psychological tests which contribute to a deeper understanding of these difficulties.  We will then discuss your aims for therapy and how we can collaborate in the direction of your goals.

My past clinical experience has allowed me to provide therapy and assessment to clients in various settings and across a range of challenges. I currently provide services to adult clients, and I have an interest in working with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, interpersonal problems, stress, adjusting to life-transitions, and work-related challenges. My approach to therapy is integrative and I draw from various models including humanistic and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, I provide services under the supervision of Dr. Lila Hakim.

I have completed my PhD and MA in Clinical Psychology at York University. My overall program of research including undergraduate and graduate focus has been on couples and relationships. I have also been interested in conducting research that has direct and practical benefits for the community. For example, for my master’s research I co-facilitated relationship enhancement workshops for couples over a span of eight months at York university.  This research was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the findings were presented at the 45th meeting of the Society for Psychotherapy Research in Denmark.

I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical and Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. I have previously provided psychological assessment and treatment services within university settings (OISE clinic: U of T), hospitals (Sunnybrook Inpatient Residential Treatment Program; anxiety center), and private practice (Oshawa Psychological & Counselling Services: OPCS, Triloka Psychology, and Church Wellesley Counselling and Psychotherapy: CWCP). At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, I am a clinical psychology resident under the supervision of Dr. Dino Zuccarini, C.Psych  and Dr. Lila Hakim, C.Psych. I am also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and the Ontario Psychological Association.

In my clinical practice, I offer a confidential and secure environment where you can openly address your mental health symptoms and concerns. Whether these issues originate from your childhood or present-day life, I provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space for exploration. My goal is to assist you in overcoming distressing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors associated with conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, complex trauma, and PTSD. Additionally, I work with individuals who are coping with grief and loss, adjusting to health-related conditions or other life events, and navigating interpersonal difficulties. I am equipped to help you manage various emotional challenges, such as anger, shame, guilt, fear, and any overwhelming emotions that may be affecting your well-being. Furthermore, I offer support for clients facing parenting challenges, stress management difficulties, and low self-esteem concerns. Together, we can address these areas of struggle and work towards finding effective solutions.

During our initial session, I will inquire about the challenges you are currently facing and collaborate with you to establish the goals you wish to accomplish throughout our therapeutic journey. To gain a comprehensive understanding of how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors have been impacting your well-being and relationships, I will request that you complete various questionnaires. Additionally, I will gather information about your personal background and life experiences in order to comprehend any contributing factors to your present struggles. As an integrative psychotherapist, my approach combines elements from different therapeutic modalities such as Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), client-centered therapy, attachment-based psychotherapy, and psychodynamic therapy.  By utilizing these diverse evidence-based approaches, I aim to assist you in reaching your desired goals through delving into your emotions, addressing any challenging behaviors and thoughts you may be experiencing, and develop coping skills in a safe and welcoming environment. Together, we will navigate through these techniques to support your growth and progress.

I have published journal articles and presented papers at multiple conferences. I have received prestigious external awards and university-awarded scholarships over the course of my graduate studies. Specifically, I have received a Master's-level Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS-M) and Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) funding in support of my master's thesis research. I am also the recipient of PhD-level OGS and SSHRC scholarships in support of my Doctoral dissertation research on the factors contributing to the process and outcome of Emotion-Focused Therapy for clients who experience Major Depressive Disorder. Life can sometimes be full of stressors and uncertainties – all of which are difficult to navigate on your own, and the good news is that you don’t have to. Reaching out for support can be uncomfortable. I’m glad you’re here taking the first step towards improving your emotional and mental well being. The truth is we all struggle from time to time, whether it be relational stressors, emotional distress, anxiety, grief, or self esteem. My desire is to help you feel supported, encouraged, and to work together to explore what is keeping you stuck. Navigating life is a team effort – I will happily be on yours

The impact of certain life events and circumstances affects how people behave, think, and feel about themselves. my goal is to help you make sense of those circumstances and make new connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I believe that the first step towards change is being able to recognize what patterns, behaviours, or thought processes that are no longer serving you. Together, we will work to identify those and explore new ways of connecting, relating, and responding to yourself and the situations around you. 

I have had experience working in multiple counselling settings with individuals who are dealing with depression/depressive thoughts, anxiety, life transitions, grief, low self esteem/self confidence, relational issues. I use an integrative approach tailored to the individuals specific needs which can include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Attachment Focused Therapy, and am seeking further training into Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I believe in using a client centered approach that highlights the strengths and resources within each individual that will help to empower and build confidence. My goal is to provide a safe, non judgemental space where you will feel supported and encouraged. My commitment to my clients is to provide support and resources through difficult times, as well as celebrate the victories and growth that occur throughout the therapeutic process. 

In our first sessions together, we will begin with discussing your personal goals, what you wish to get out of therapy, and work together to find a way to best achieve your goals. We will discuss the issues that are currently impacting you, how they are affecting your day to day life, and begin to explore the origin of the issues. This may include discussing family history, childhood experiences and relationships, current relationships, and talking about how past experiences are currently affecting you. As well as exploring current coping methods, and finding new and healthy ways of coping. 

I received my Masters of Spiritual Care & Psychotherapy from Wilfrid Laurier University, and am currently providing psychological services through CFIR under the supervision of Dr. Peter Egeto.

Initiating the process of working through your most challenging emotions, fears, and behaviours is often the hardest part. So first, I commend you for your bravery in embarking on this important journey of self-discovery. I am committed to meeting you exactly where you are on your own journey, and walking alongside you in a therapeutic environment built on empathy, compassion, and unconditional positive regard. My aim is to help you to discover your own inner compass that will allow you to navigate the challenges of your life and begin to move forward. 

I work with adolescents and adults experiencing a variety of concerns such as grief and loss, trauma, interpersonal trauma (e.g., emotional, physical, or sexual abuse), eating disorders, addictions, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and body image concerns. I emphasize the importance of understanding how your cultural background, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression have influenced your unique life experiences. As well, my approach to therapy is trauma-informed; I seek to understand how your life experiences and circumstances have shaped who you are today and influenced your present day struggles, including maladaptive coping patterns.

I strive to be flexible, creative, and collaborative in my approach to therapy; I endorse an integrative style and incorporate several therapeutic modalities based on your specific and individualized needs.  In particular, I draw from frameworks such as mindfulness-based, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioural, dialectical behavioural, attachment-based, emotion-focused, and psychodynamic. I aspire to continuously educate myself on a variety of therapeutic modalities and I am always keen to learn and adapt new approaches in order to best support my clients. 

In the first session, I will invite you to share your story with me. You can expect me to get curious and ask questions to gain a comprehensive understanding of who you are, how you got here, and where you would like to go. I will create a safe, non-judgemental space where we can connect and build a strong therapeutic alliance based on respect and trust. I may conduct an assessment to identify your challenges, concerns, and treatment goals; with this information, we can develop an individualized treatment plan to begin moving in the direction of your goals. Once we’ve established a safe environment and strong alliance, we can work together to uncover the challenging patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are causing you to feel distressed, lost, or “stuck”. I will work collaboratively with you at your own pace as you process difficult past experiences and create new pathways towards fulfilling meaningful personal goals. 

I have previous experience working with trauma victims of motor vehicle accidents at the Centre for Neurodiagnostic Services, as a psychometrist for MVA assessments. As well, I have prior experience teaching art lessons to support children with diagnoses such as ADHD, ODD, reactive attachment disorder, and conduct disorder. I obtained a B.A. in developmental psychology from the University of Windsor, where I also conducted research on body-image dissatisfaction among female undergraduate students. Additionally, I have experience working as a research assistant for several projects investigating body image, eating disorders, and the psychological benefits of practicing yoga. At certain times in your life, you may feel confused, and stuck and working with a therapist to make sense of what is happening in your world is a great place to begin the quest for self-exploration, examination, and discovery. I commend you for taking this very courageous step!

At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, I provide psychological assessment and treatment to adults who are experiencing challenges such as (but not limited to) mood disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression), trauma, self-esteem, personality, and interpersonal (relational) issues. I also support couples that are experiencing on-going relationship difficulties by exploring important areas such as maladaptive communication and attachment styles.

I have a special interest in multicultural/cross-cultural issues and working with people of colour. I am also committed to providing culturally competent counselling to those from diverse backgrounds. My approach to therapy entails cultivating a positive therapeutic alliance by providing a safe space to collaborate and explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner. Upon your initial visit, we will work together to identify your therapeutic goals and I will provide you with my professional opinion about how we can attain these goals together. I also use clinically sound evidence-based assessments to help you obtain insight as to what may be at the source of the problem.

My clinical treatment is based on an integrative therapeutic framework; which means that I use various therapeutic modalities such as Adlerian psychology, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Multicultural Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Brief-Solution Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples.

Prior to my current position, I have provided clinical services in various settings across Ontario including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), The Ottawa Hospital, The Scarborough Grace Hospital, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, and York University’s Counselling and Development Centre. Finding a therapist that is the right fit for you is an important step towards healing and growth. I am currently completing my PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Ottawa. Reaching out and asking for help does not come easily for many people. I respect your willingness to face difficult feelings or circumstances in order to grow, create change, and find a more positive place in your life. Relationships and life stages come with many challenges, and I welcome the privilege of exploring these alongside you as we discuss your goals for therapy and develop a tailored plan to achieve them. 

I have completed a Master’s degree  in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I have completed my practicum and continue to provide therapy under the supervision of Joshua Peters, M.A., R.P. at the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships. I work with adults of all ages and am comfortable working with individuals of diverse cultures, religions, genders and sexual orientations. My approach is team oriented, which means that rather than direct you, I work alongside you in a structured way to help you examine and gain awareness of what paths and solutions will work best for you given your goals and your unique characteristics, relationships, background and lifestyle. My focus is on providing you a warm, confidential, nonjudgmental, and empathic space where you can feel safe and secure to carry out this work. 

I have a special interest in anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions (childbirth, retirement, empty nest, divorce etc.) and in body image and eating disorders. I have taken extensive training in emotion-focused family therapy and have supported parents to care for children and youth with eating disorder. I have contributed to Canadian practice and treatment guidelines for children and youth with eating disorders. In addition to working with individuals, I have an interest in couples counselling.

During our first session together, I will listen closely to what you are ready to tell me. We will work together to set preliminary goals that may evolve as we move forward. Throughout therapy we will regularly assess and discuss progress and your satisfaction with the direction we are moving in so that we can alter treatment as needed. 

My approach pulls from various theoretical foundations. Psychodynamic and attachment-based theories provide structure to explore past and current relationships and their impact on one’s current thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behaviour. Humanistic theory informs exploration of deeper meanings and knowledge of self, helping to remove blocks to reaching one’s full potential and uncovering hidden strengths. Post-modernism incorporates consideration of the impact of social and cultural influences on one’s unique set of circumstances and day-to-day experiences. Therapeutically, I use a variety of skills and techniques depending on what is most suited to you. These include techniques based in cognitive-behavioural, narrative, Gestalt, and solution-focused therapies. I have a special interest in emotion-focused family therapy and family-based treatment for eating disorders. I am also qualified in enhanced cognitive-behavioural therapy for the treatment of eating disorders.  

I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists, the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and an affiliate member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

Assessments Service: I provide psychoeducational assessments for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of referral concerns, including issues like learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, and intellectual disabilities. Additionally, I provide mental health assessments for individuals of all ages, referred to as psychodiagnostic assessment. These evaluations serve multiple purposes, including aiding in treatment planning, establishing academic accommodations, and providing deeper insight into your mental health or learning patterns. The assessment process usually includes an initial interview, questionnaires, possible task measures, and a feedback session where I offer suggestions to improve your daily life.

I am currently in the final year of my Ph.D. in Psychology at York University. Additionally, I am pursuing a psychoanalytic training program at the Canadian Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (CICAPP). I completed my BA in Psychology and my MA in Developmental Psychology at York University. Over the past decade, I have extensive experience providing assessment and intervention services in various clinical settings, including public mental health hospitals, community mental health, the Toronto District School Board, and multiple private practice settings. Alongside my clinical work, I have engaged in academic endeavors through research and teaching. My research has focused on bilingualism and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in children and adults. I have published academic articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international academic conferences.

There may be many reasons that you’re searching for a therapist and taking the time to read through the many bio’s out there. Although it can feel daunting, the good thing is right now you are taking the exact steps needed to find someone who you can trust and will support you. If you (or a loved one) are feeling worried, stressed, burnt out, overwhelmed with life, sad or just don’t feel like yourself – I want you to know, I hear you. In my 10+ years working with clients on their journey through therapy, I continue to believe and see that we all have the strength and resilience to grow and change, to be our best selves. It can seem like a lot, but you don’t have to do it alone and together we can find the small steps forward.

In my work, I primarily see adults for a variety of different issues, but have particular interest and extensive experience assessing, diagnosing and treating people with concerns related to anxiety (Generalized Anxiety, OCD), mood (Depression, Bipolar), ADHD, stress/burnout, self confidence and relationship difficulties. Also as a first generation Canadian with Caribbean background, I have an interest in multicultural and BIPOC identity/experiences and supporting clients in navigating related challenges in their personal and/or professional lives. 

I recognize the uniqueness of each person’s story, so in our first session or two I would want to get know more about you, the challenges your facing and your needs while also learning more about your background and how you got here. It will also be an opportunity for you to get to know me and my style and whether we feel we are a good fit to work together. As part of these first sessions I may also ask you to complete some brief evidence-based questionnaires to better evaluate your concerns. Once I’ve gathered this information I will then share with you my professional opinion about likely contributing and maintaining factors to your challenges and we can begin outlining a therapy plan together.

I bring a calm, compassionate yet engaging approach to therapy and believe in genuine collaboration, respect and empathy. Within our sessions, I will provide a safe non-judgemental space to reflect and also offer guidance and practical, evidence-based tools towards empowering yourself. I like to give my clients the flexibility in session to focus on skills to solve a specific problem, or to have more open-ended discussions that allow for exploration. Together, we can work on healthy ways to quiet frustrating inner chatter, set and keep important boundaries with others, handle life’s hurdles and feel confident in yourself again.

I primarily work from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) lens but I do draw skills from other evidence-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) interpersonal, and mindfulness-based techniques into my treatment.

I completed my Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) following an undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) in psychology from the University of Guelph. I offer a supportive and non-judgemental environment wherein we can understand your challenges and explore the underlying issues that created them. I will work with you to create lasting change by facilitating self-reflection, self-acceptance, and by examining emotional and interpersonal patterns. 

In individual therapy I work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, obsessions, and compulsions.  I also work with clients who are dealing with consequences of trauma, loss of loved ones, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Psychotherapy, however, is not limited to challenges and difficulties, it can also be a process to better understand yourself and discover your passion and vitality. 

In the initial sessions, I try to understand your concerns, history, unique background (e.g., gender, sexual orientation, race), and expectations.  I will explain my therapeutic approach, how therapy works, and what you can reasonably expect in terms of treatment outcomes.  

My therapeutic approach is integrative and draws from psychodynamic traditions, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness approaches. My approach focuses on the psychological roots of your problems, attends to the unconscious, and explores how the past influences the present. I also focus on the relationship that we form together.  Patterns that we observe in our relationship are helpful in understanding dynamics in other areas of your life. 

I obtained a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from McGill University. My supervised practice as a Clinical Psychologist at CFIR in conducted under the supervision of Dr. Dino Zuccarini, C.Psych., and Dr. Lila Hakim, C.Psych.

If you are interested in therapy, it is likely because you are ready for change. Reaching out to a therapist is a powerful first step in creating a space for yourself where you can face the questions and challenges you have about your life and relationships. I work one-on-one with adults of all ages including young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, pain, grief, anger, trauma, and relationship struggles. If you are looking for a space where you are free to explore and define your needs without worrying about saying the right and wrong things, then I might be a good fit. My role as a therapist is to learn how best to listen to my clients rather than imposing one-size-fits-all solutions. With this support, my clients not only learn to speak more openly and freely, but also to listen to themselves in new ways, and with the kind of openness that leads to transformative change.

I specialize in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This involves working closely with emotions, thinking patterns and behaviours. The term psychodynamic also refers to the “dynamics” between the conscious and unconscious mind. Not all of the emotions and motivations impacting our lives are easy to pinpoint. Sometimes these emotions and motivations are unconscious and this can make it more difficult to tackle depression, anxiety, or the feeling of being “stuck” in relationships, work or school, or when it comes to challenges around alcohol, drugs, and sex. That is why working with a trained psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapist like me can help, especially when it comes to the kinds of internal conflicts that are difficult to perceive and grapple with alone. Psychodynamic therapy offers the tools for making these thoughts and feelings more accessible. It is a space to approach life’s difficulties with a profound sense of nonjudgement and openness. I work from culturally reflexive and harm reduction perspectives, recognizing how intersecting identities of race, class, gender, culture, and sexuality shape what trauma, resilience, and healing means for different people. I welcome and affirm the experiences of those in or interested in alternative communities and non-traditional relationships.

Many of my clients have been thinking about therapy for some time before our first meeting. During your first session, you will have a chance to tell me what brings you here and what your expectations are for therapy. Early on, we will also conduct a comprehensive scientific-based assessment of your difficulties, which will provide a foundation for understanding the root of your challenges. Based on this assessment period, we will develop a treatment plan that works for you and your needs. This treatment plan will integrate a variety of therapeutic models such as, attachment theory, ego psychology, self psychology, psychoanalysis, and dream analysis. Child development, family dynamics and socio-cultural factors will play a crucial role in shaping my understanding of your concerns and treatment needs. In our sessions it is also essential that you have the opportunity to share whatever it is that comes up for you at the moment. This is because the ways our minds associate freely offers a powerful way to access feelings and motivations. That is why a supportive, collaborative, and creative therapeutic environment has been so helpful to so many people. And it is important to remember that this work takes time and the gradual build up of trust.

In addition to working with CFIR, my practice is affiliated with the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis and I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals. Before starting my clinical practice in 2021, I worked as a researcher and instructor in the Humanities. I have held research positions at the University of Toronto, McMaster University and the University of Cambridge in the UK where I taught various literature courses from social and cultural perspectives. This background in the Humanities provided me with a unique and powerful foundation for understanding the inner workings of the mind. We tend to think about fiction in terms of “making stuff up” but it is also the art of representing the complexity of our internal dialogues and human interactions. This understanding of literature underscores the value I place as a clinician in thinking carefully, deeply, and creatively about the stories we tell (and sometimes don’t tell) about ourselves. By learning to tell their stories, and perhaps learning to tell their stories differently, my clients are able to find balance, take risks, and centre healing in their lives.

Your lived experiences shape how you see yourself and the world. Some of these experiences – BIG or small – that shaped who you are today might now be causing difficulties in your life. Recognizing this is a major sign of great insight and personal strength, and I greatly admire your curiosity of exploring this in therapy. As your psychologist, I provide a safe and secure setting so that you feel hopeful and empowered to go on this journey that brings about positive changes in your life.

Throughout my PhD clinical training, I have had the opportunity to work with a diversity of individuals who were seeking psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. Helping people conquer their difficulties with low self-esteem, interpersonal problems, anxiety (e.g., generalized, social, health, panic), mood (e.g., single-episode, persistent), obsessive-compulsive disorder (e.g., body dysmorphia, skin-picking), substance use (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, etc.), and insomnia has been a passion of mine. I enjoy working with individuals of diverse identities and backgrounds (e.g., ethnicity, religiosity/spirituality), with a notable passion working with individuals who belong to the LGBTQ2*.

While there are a number of labels that can be ascribed to any psychological or behavioural difficulty, I like to look beyond this to help address how these difficulties and symptoms are experienced day-to-day. For this reason, there is not one prescribed treatment plan, but rather we work to address the specific difficulties that are unique to each individual person. My view of individual psychotherapy involves combining our expertise – your understanding about your life and lived experiences, and my knowledge about how to address mental health difficulties – to address your reasons for seeking therapy. On my part, I mostly apply a cognitive-behaviour therapeutic (CBT) framework to understand and treat mental health difficulties. I have particular interests in applying CBT to address difficulties with anxiety (e.g., generalized, social, health, panic), obsessive-compulsive (e.g., body dysmorphia, skin-picking), and sleep disorders (e.g., insomnia). As part of therapy, I help you develop a clearer understanding through the principles of CBT of how your mental health difficulties might have emerged. We will then work together to explore different ways to intervene on your current difficulties. At times, I will integrate other psychological theories (e.g., acceptance and commitment, dialectical-behavioural, object-relations/psychodynamic) to help develop a better understanding of how your difficulties might have developed.

Our initial sessions will involve examining your reasons for seeking therapy, reviewing your life history, and identifying your specific goals for therapy. We will work together to define your goals for therapy using clear and objective measures. For instance, if a goal for therapy is to be less socially anxious, a goal for therapy could be to initiate conversations with coworkers with the hopes of connecting with others more easily. I will then introduce to you my preliminary understanding of how your current difficulties might have unfolded within a CBT framework, as well as help you address these difficulties by incorporating evidence-based intervention strategies. From here, we will work together to examine situations in which your difficulties are impacting your day-to-day life, as well as incorporating structured and systematic methods (e.g., handouts and forms) that are to be completed between sessions. As therapy progresses, sessions might involve challenging yourself to try different empirically-driven interventions that are geared towards your goals for therapy. As we draw closer to achieving your therapeutic goals, we might aim to gradually pace out our sessions and allow you the opportunity to incorporate the knowledge and skills that you have acquired through therapy to become your own therapist. In fact, the only goal that I have as your therapist is to no longer need me, and for you to become your own therapist. 

I am currently completing my postdoctoral year of supervised practice under the supervision of Drs. Aleks Milosevic (C.Psych.) and Dino Zuccarini (C.Psych.). I completed my CPA accredited pre-doctoral residency at the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). Prior to this, I received clinical training in a variety of settings. This includes the Anxiety Disorders Program (Department of Psychology) at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Unit (Department of Psychiatry) at the MUHC, Mindspace (private practice), MediPsy (private practice), and the Applied Psychology Centre at Concordia University. Across these settings, I have provided individual and group psychotherapy, psychoeducational assessments, and providing clinical supervision. I continue to engage in research, with my most recent research interests employing biological, psychometric, and knowledge synthesis approaches in order to explore the evolution of depression in individuals who undergo weight loss surgery.

I continue to invest part of my time actively engaging in research. Much of my peer-reviewed work focuses on understanding the psychosocial and biological factors of depression, with my doctoral work examining these factors among individuals receiving surgical interventions for the treatment of severe obesity. This work is affiliated with the Montreal Behavioural Medicine Centre (MBMC) and the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux du Nord-de-l’île-de-Montréal (CIUSSS-NIM).

Life can be challenging and take its toll. Though we’re all doing the best we can, given our circumstances and the resources available to us, we all struggle sometimes and often need extra help from others to flourish. If you’re reading this, then maybe you’re considering therapy as one of those helpful resources for yourself. My one-on-one clinical work with adults experiencing a range of issues – anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, interpersonal conflict, major life transitions, and identity-related struggles, among others – has shown me just how helpful therapy can be.

Therapy can provide opportunities to reflect on the aspects of your life you’d like to change, as well as to explore new ways of seeing and being seen, of connecting and responding to yourself and others. This sort of change can expose us to feeling vulnerable, so I commend you on your courage to consider this next step.

During our initial sessions, I’d conduct an assessment. We’d then examine the recurring patterns in your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, relationships, and life experiences so that we could develop a plan for change that best meets your needs. I’m trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, and humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. My approach employs a flexible, integrated use of any of them, depending on your therapy goals.

Don’t worry if these terms are unfamiliar to you. We’ll figure out what’s most useful for you in a space that I try to make as warm, nonjudgmental, and validating as I can.

Before my work here at CFIR, I provided treatment and assessment services within a variety of settings, including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Work, Stress, and Health Program; Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic; and adult Gender Identity Clinic), the University of Toronto’s Health and Wellness Centre, and St. Michael’s Hospital’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.

With me, therapy is also trauma-informed and queer-friendly. Marginalization, stigmatization, and other inequities can profoundly affect mental health. I’d incorporate an awareness of these contextual factors, should you find them relevant to your experience. I specialize in working with LGBTQQIP2SAA folks, and my academic research addresses issues of sexuality and gender identity as they relate to mental health.

In addition to the assessment services listed below, for adults seeking gender-confirming surgery approval, I’m qualified and competent (as a “secondary assessor”) to assess the diagnostic, eligibility, and readiness criteria according to the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC 7).

I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Ryerson University, where I was a senior member of the SHiFT Laboratory at the Psychology Department. At the lab, I drew from critical psychological perspectives to challenge so-called “truths” in psychology about gender, sexuality, and mental health-related topics. I’ve published my research in peer-reviewed journals and presented internationally at conferences. I’m a reviewer for several academic journals and have guest lectured at Ryerson and the University of Toronto. I’m an autonomous Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario; I’m also a member of both the Canadian and Ontario Psychological Associations.

I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in clinical and counselling psychology at Adler Graduate Professional School. As part of my academic journey, I am undertaking a practicum at the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships under Dr. Lila Hakim’s supervision.

In my individual therapy practice, I assist clients in navigating various challenges. I offer support to those grappling with anxiety and depression, individuals encountering obstacles in current relationships or seeking clarity on past relational issues, as well as those overwhelmed by workplace stress. Furthermore, I provide compassionate guidance to individuals coping with the aftermath of traumatic life events, such as unexpected transitions into caregiver roles, bereavement, and experiences of emotional or physical abuse. I also assist clients wrestling with existential dilemmas, aiding them in finding solace and understanding as they navigate questions of life’s purpose, meaning, and the pursuit of a fulfilling existence.

Building on my experience, I am passionate about assisting couples in navigating various relationship challenges. This encompasses issues spanning from sexual and emotional intimacy to effectively managing conflicts in daily life. I am dedicated to enhancing emotional connections, redefining notions of pleasure, and facilitating healing ruptures following betrayals. Additionally, I am invested in conducting couples and pre-marital assessments to empower partners in recognizing their strengths, addressing difficulties, and identifying areas for growth within their relationship.

Drawing from a range of evidence-based practices, including psychodynamic-attachment interventions, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I tailor my approach to suit the individual needs of each client. Furthermore, having received training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, I integrate mindfulness techniques into my therapeutic toolkit to enhance clients’ self-awareness and coping strategies.

Prior to psychology, I earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto. My professional background spans over 15 years within the Toronto finance community. I’ve held diverse roles throughout my career, including those focused on providing executive coaching and support to C-Suite members. In addition to psychology, being passionate about integrative medicine, I founded a patient advocacy group of integrative medicine advocates to push integrative healthcare reform in Ontario.

BIOGRAPHY

Deciding to seek therapy is an important step toward healing, personal growth, and meaningful change. If you are reading this page, thank you for considering the possibility of me guiding and supporting you on this journey of positive change. In working with you, I will help you navigate life obstacles by providing you with coping strategies ad a compassionate space to resolve your issues. I am pleased to present a summary of my education, the types of presenting concerns that I assess and treat, and how we would work together to help you determine if we might be a good client-therapist fit. 

I am currently in my final year of my PhD in Clinical & Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, I am a resident working under the supervision of Dr. Lila Hakim, C. Psych. Here, I provide individual and couple therapy for adults presenting with a wide range of concerns and welcome people from all walks of life (e.g., different ages, genders, ethnicities, spiritual beliefs, and sexual orientations).

In terms of individual therapy, I see clients who are experiencing anxiety and depression and past or present relationship difficulties. I also support clients dealing with trauma or PTSD, and grief and loss, such as a relationship break-up, divorce, bereavement of a loved one, and the loss of a pet. I have extensive experience helping clients with life adjustment difficulties (e.g., starting college/university, relocation, retirement), occupational stress, and burnout.

Regarding couple therapy, I work with couples to address a diverse range of relationship issues, including improving their communication and physical/sexual intimacy, managing conflicts over parenting, extended family members and finances. I also support couples in managing challenging life situations in which one partner is afflicted with mental health difficulties or chronic illness.

During our initial sessions, I’ll ask you about your current life challenges and goals for therapy. Next, I’ll ask you to complete various self-report questionnaires and ask you to share your life history. This will help us understand what is causing and maintaining your difficulties. It will also allow me to systemically plan a treatment and select interventions that address your presenting concerns, unique needs, and treatment goals. 

In therapy, I use various treatment modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, emotion-focused therapy, attachment-based therapy, relational therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies. Furthermore, I believe in using an integrative approach to help people address a wide range of issues. This is a therapeutic approach in which a variety of techniques are combined to fit the unique needs of the individual client and allows for a personalized approach to treatment. Throughout the assessment and treatment process, I provide a non-judgmental, compassionate, and authentic space to help you feel comfortable discussing your problems and exploring your experiences, thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

In my previous clinical positions, I trained in various settings, including hospitals, universities, and private practice. Specifically, I completed practicum placements at the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships, an outpatient unit at Toronto General Hospital, and the University of Waterloo’s Health Services. I have also worked in private practice in Aurora and Barrie for over six years under the supervision of registered psychologists. At these sites, I collectively treated adults and adolescents and provided individual and group therapy. I also conducted assessments for a wide range of mental health difficulties (e.g., anxiety, depressive, eating, post-traumatic stress, and personality disorders).

In addition to my past clinical work experience, I have had various research, teaching, and supervision responsibilities. Specifically, I have published a peer-reviewed manuscript in Eating Disorders. For my PhD dissertation, I am examining how people can manage occupational stress proactively and adaptively and have presented my findings at a national research conference. I have coached graduate students in various cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) certificate courses and provided CBT supervision to Master’s students at the University of Toronto.

Life presents challenges that can create a cascade of negative thoughts and feelings in our life and difficulties in relationships at work and home.  When we become absorbed in our negative thoughts and feelings, we become immersed in a world of anxiety and depression, and sometimes its hard to find our way out of this space.  I applaud you for taking your first steps in turning the tide of this difficult cascade of thoughts, feelings, and relationship difficulties.

I have been practicing psychotherapy for over five years and am comfortable in working with individuals and couples from all backgrounds and orientations. In individual therapy, I enjoy working with adults navigating challenges related to stress, anxiety, negative emotions, identity, relationships and more. In couples therapy, I help couples break down their difficulties with addressing conflict to help them build deeper bonds to enhance intimacy. Having experienced emotional challenges myself, I understand the impact of small changes that happen in life or at work, on mental state. My focus is on building a safe space where you can feel comfortable and understood.

In our first meeting, I would love for you to share your story and what you are looking for in therapy. Together, we will explore and build goals that are comfortable to pursue and, in the process, cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. In addition, we will complete a comprehensive, scientific-based assessment for you to gain a better understanding of your struggles and their origins. 

I like to be flexible in my approach so my clients can benefit most from the research-based approach I provide them with. I am grounded in a humanistic and experiential perspective and borrow from emotionally focused (EFT), internal family systems (IFS), psychodynamic/analytic, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), mindfulness, and other psychodynamic therapy styles. I am interested in working with trauma, especially in how it affects our self-esteem and relationships. At CFIR, I work under the supervision of Dr. Mélodie Britt, C. Psych, who also accompanies me in furthering my knowledge regularly.

I am a registered member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario, with a Masters in Psychology and an additional Diploma in Clinical Psychology. I am also a registered member with the Rehabilitation Council of India and practiced therapy in India before moving abroad.
