Part of the course will be spent preparing artwork to expose onto plates using computers and hand-drawn processes. You will learn how to coat and expose photo etching plates and produce final prints. Bring a photograph, drawing or digital image no larger than A4 to work with. The course will cover basic Photoshop manipulation, printing out the images onto acetate, test stripping, developing and printing the A5 plate. As with all introductory courses, there will be no masterpieces made on the course, the aim is to learn the process.This course is aimed at those who have previously attended the Beginner/Refresher Etching course or have equivalent recent experience. Previous photoshop experience is preferred. Etching uses acid to create marks on a metal plate, which is then inked and printed through a press. You will learn the fundamentals of etching and experiment using soft grounds, hard grounds and aquatint to produce richly textured images.
