Hi, this is Harry from Triple Threat Reels! Here’s some detailed info of what we offer, and what to expect when you book with us. Every artist is different, so each session requires its own slightly different workflow. But here’s a general guide as to what happens before, during and after your studio session! DISCOVERY CALLYou’re welcome to give us a discovery call any time to talk through your requirements and get to know us!BOOKINGYou can book through simplybook.me. The calendar will show you available slots. We take a 50% deposit to hold the slot, with the remainder payable on the day of the session.PRE-PRODUCTION MEETING1 week before the session, we do an in person or google meets pre-production meeting. We discuss your song and vision for the video and how to achive it. This includes backdrop style, lighting pallets, wardrobe and makeup choices, style of camera work (handheld, or on a gimbal, or static on a tripod, or moving on track or dolly) and lens choices (a wide or close, or a zoom, something vintage with character or modern and sharp). It is in the meeting of all of these considered elements, with your talent, your voice, your spirit, by which the final piece comes alive. After the Pre-Production Meeting, we send you a Google drive link where you can upload your musical accompaniment file, visual references, and anything else inspiring or relevant to the video.SESSION PREPThis is your part, rehearsing and refining your performance ready for the session. THE SESSIONWhen you arrive at The Mind Palace, everything will be set up, and the kettle will be on!After tea, we warm up, get used to the space and go through notes. Some artists like more direction, some prefer less, either way, we’re on hand to offer any guidance you need. SETUP We take you through to the live room and we do a test audio take, to review and find the best mic placement and preamp choices to suit your voice. We balance your headphone monitoring mix to the right levels (very important!) to give you lovely sounding vocal monitoring. With the sound set, we move on to a camera test. We set and adjust lighting, and colour balance in camera in accordance with your skin tone. We film the first take, review it on a large monitor, and see how fabulous it all looks and sounds! We go through any notes, and after final adjustments to camera and lighting, we’re ready to roll! RECORDINGWe record around 3 takes of your performance. Sometimes we do more if required, there’s no rush as we allow a 120 min booking slot for 1 song. REVIEWOnce you’ve done your takes, you come through to the control room to review your takes. We pick a master take (the take that we like the most overall). This will be the foundation on which we build the ‘comp’, by combining the best sections from multiple recorded takes into one final, perfect track. That’s a wrap! You’ve done your work in the prep and performance, now have a rest and we’ll take care of the post production. POST PRODUCTIONTHE SOUND EDITWe make the comp with delicacy, aiming to preserve naturalism and emphasise the emotional journey through the piece. We do not use autotune of any kind. We then process the vocals through our outboard hardware, sculpting the electrical signal through analogue circuity, and feeding it back into out top of the line converters back to a digital signal. We mix your vocal with your backing track, using a room, reverb and EQ bus to make them sound cohesive, like they've been recorded together. We then master the entire track, optimising for dynamics and volume. THE VIDEO EDITWe edit the video at our video studio in Fulham, using Davinci Resolve, and Dehancer Pro film emulation. We care about the images we produce, using a colour checker to meters to give the image balance. We generally opt for natural looking yet beautifying colour grade, a soft look that smoothes out skin while making the colours of eyes and highlight clothes ‘pop’. We colour grade on a calibrated monitor, referencing on a projector and laptop and mobile devices to ensure the video looks amazing across the full range of devices. The turnaround for your video is 7 days.
