When you come to a Sewing club session you could choose a project you'd like to work on or bring anything you've already had started and want to carry on. We will give you all the help and professional advice to develop your ideas and finish the project to a very good standard.

• Type of lesson: Group lesson

   This course is designed for total beginners or those who have not done any sewing for years and would like to get back into it. 

Over a 5 week period all learners will refresh their existing skills as well as learn new techniques and have a lot of practice with professional advice and help at hand.

First we learn the basics, starting from how to use sewing machine, what are the different presser feet are for and practice doing different kind of stitches.
Then all students will complete up to three projects.
You will be able to choose from these:

To make a simple cushion cover with a zip.

To make a simple small bag.

To create a cushion with decorative details such as piping, appliqué, draping or frills.

To make a bigger bag with some more complicated design. (There are a few options to choose from)

To try patchwork, quilting and freehand embroidery.

You also will be welcome to pursue your own ideas, if you like. 

These projects will be demonstrated on a step by step basis so you can work at your own pace.

This course is a good foundation to provide students with the key skills and techniques to go into more complex sewing, dressmaking and tailoring projects.

Length: 15 hours over 5 weeks.

   This course is designed for total beginners. you will not need to have any previous experience in sewing.

Lesson 1: On the first lesson we will go over the basics and you will complete small beginner project, such as making a cushion cover with the zip or a make a small purse/ pencil case. That will give you some essential skills to move on to your trousers project.

During the rest of this course you will learn how to position your patterns correctly and cut your fabric, put together your trousers and sew in a zip as well as attach a waistband and couple of different techniques on how to hem your trousers.

For an extra £15 we offer to make a bespoke pattern for your trousers to make sure they fit you perfectly. This pattern is for you to take home and to use to make more beautiful trousers in the future.

We recommend taking advantage of this as commercial patterns are produced using standard measurements. These take a long time to adjust and the extra time taken will result in your project taking longer than 4 sessions to complete. (These extra sessions are not included in the course price and will need to be booked separately.)

This course assumes a simple design trousers, if you would like to add some extra details to your project, that will be fine but make take a bit  longer to complete, so you may need to book some extra lessons. 

   If you would like to learn to make trousers patterns which fit well, this course is for you.

On this course you will learn :

This course will run over 4 weeks, total of 12 hours.

You will need to bring A4 folder (for your notes), rulers and pencils, if you prefer to use your own...

Also, you will need some calico or plain cotton material to make your trouser toile at home.

   If you are a total beginner or would like to develop your skills and start making your own clothes, this course is a perfect dressmaking starter project. 

On the first lesson we will go over the basics to get you started, then you will do a small project - make a cushion cover with a zip or a pencil case / cosmetic bag.

Next, we will make a pattern together for your skirt, where you will learn some basics in pattern cutting.

On the remaining lessons we will make your skirt, you will learn how to sew invisible zip, attach waistband correctly, make a buttonhole and several options on how to finish the hem.

Cost of the materials are not included in the course price.

For the first lesson you will need to bring some fabric and a zip to make your first project ( cushion cover or a small bag ). 

We have kits available to buy at our studio if you'd like. 

   If you would like to learn the basics of pattern making, this course is a good one to start with.

On this course you will learn :

Try your toile, make all the necessary adjustments to it and transfer them to your pattern, on completion you will have a perfect pattern which fits you very well.

If you'd like to make the pattern for someone else, you'll need to bring that person with you to the first lesson (please let Tanya know prior to your course due to start if you'd like to do that). 

When you have the first pattern made, next you could learn how to transform it into many different garment designs on our pattern manipulation classes. (On the end of your course we will show you some examples of what you could do)
