Welcome to the online booking system for the St Kilda Accessible Beaches Trial. Simply click the green 'Book Now' button above, select your time and we will email you the code to open the shipping container where the beach wheelchair is located.In partnership with the St Kilda Life Saving Club, City of Port Phillip is providing free beach wheelchair access at St Kilda main beach throughout the summer patrol season on weekends only (December 2020 – March 2021).If you require any of this information in an alternative format, please contact the City of Port Phillip on tel. 03 9209 6777 or email: assist@portphillip.vic.gov.auBEACH MATTINGWhere: In front of the St Kilda Life Saving Club, 34 Jacka Boulevard, St Kilda.When: Available 7 days a week throughout the summer patrol season (December 2020 – March 2021). Please note that beach cleaning activities occur early on Tuesday mornings and the mat may not be in position until after 11 am. Who: Anyone can use the matting, however it particularly helps people with wheelchairs, prams, walking and mobility aids to pass over soft sand to get to the hard sand. Please do not tamper with or remove the matting.FLOATING BEACH WHEELCHAIR – Mobi-Chair (model)Booking: Use is FREE but bookings are essential.Hygiene: Please bring your own sanitising equipment to wipe down the beach wheelchair before and after use. The Life Saving Club will disinfect the equipment weekly.Availability: Available on Saturdays and Sundays between 9.30am to 4.30pm throughout summer patrol season. Bookings are for 1.5 hours in total. Speak with the Life Saving Club members to let them know you have arrived for your booking. They may be able to demonstrate the safety features of the wheelchair. You can make arrangements with the Life Saving Club on the day to extend your booking if the chair is available.Hoist: an over-head tracking hoist is contained in the Changing Places facility, adjacent to the other public amenities in the St Kilda Life Saving Club building. Users will need to bring their own sling and carer/s to assist with the safe use of the hoist. please bring your own sanitizing equipment to wipe down the beach wheelchair before and after use. The Life Saving Club will disinfect the equipment weekly.Assistance: whilst the wheelchair is designed to be used without assistance from lifesavers or rangers, users with limited mobility will require the assistance of their own carer/s to access the wheelchair and for water safety. Two carers will be required if entering water deeper than waist height.Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions:∙ The city of Port Phillip advises users with limited mobility to bring at least one person to assist in accessing the wheelchair. At least two people will need to assist if taking the wheelchair into the water for safety.∙ Users of the over-head hoist in the Changing Places facility will need to bring their own sling and carer/s to assist with the safe use of the hoist.∙ There is no assistance from the City of Port Phillip or lifesavers to set up or use the equipment. Lifesavers will make the beach wheelchair available for your booking and may be able to assist with access to the water (during patrol hours), however, this cannot be guaranteed.∙ Please ensure you are familiar with the Mobi-chair (beach wheelchair) user manual containing safety feature before you arrive at the beach. ∙ Whilst St Kilda beach is a relatively safe beach for swimming, conditions can change quickly impacting the size of waves and currents. Users are advised to swim between the flags during patrolled hours only. Lifesaver instructions are to be followed at all times.∙ City of Port Phillip, St Kilda Life Saving Club and Life Saving Victoria will make every effort to ensure that beach access matting remains in place and firmly secured, however, there may be some disruption during large swells or other extreme weather conditions.∙ Please contact the City of Port Phillip for enquiries or to report any damage or faulty equipment at ASSIST@portphillip.vic.gov.au or 03 9209 6777.∙ I have read the conditions of use and watched the instructional video for use and understand that the beach wheelchair, beach matting, and portable hoist is set up for independent use without the assistance of City of Port Phillip, St Kilda Life Saving Club or Life Saving Victoria. I agree to use the equipment at my own risk, including wiping down the equipment with sanitizer before and after my use and return the equipment to the storage container at the end of my booking.
