About the company

Welcome to my page! Here is a little bit about myself:I am a driven Middle School Math Teacher with a strong dedication to student progress, enhanced learning and long-term success. I come from a family of teachers, and grew up passionate about educating. When I think back to the times as a child helping set up classrooms before the school year, it truly brings a smile on my face. I am currently teaching 6-8th grade math, including a Honors Algebra 1 at St. Joseph's School in Garden City. I also worked with early childhood at Children of America in Smithtown. I graduated with my BA from St. John's University, and currently pursuing my MA at Stony Brook University. I have a deep understanding of Mathematics and proficient in helping advanced, struggling and special needs students enhance learning. Driven to help students develop skills and learn at an appropriate and comfortable pace. Hardworking with 6 years of teaching experience and enthusiastic about pursuing new avenues of learning, growing professionally and building upon acquired skills. Along with this experience includes Regents, SAT, ACT, and TACHS Exam preparation. Along with teaching in a traditional classroom setting, I also grew a love of coaching, particularly Ice Hockey.My philosophy is that introducing fresh perspectives and new techniques allow students to evolve and grow. Have you ever heard someone say that they are not a math person so they "can't do math"? Or even, have you ever said this about yourself? This is a common misconception that has been imprinted on too many student's minds, and I plan to help them overcome this mindset and achieve success in mathematics. What does it mean to be, or not to be, a math person? To "not" be one means that you have difficulty with math and have trouble finding the correct answer. This kind of mindset convinces a student that they can't be successful in the subject so they won't even try. They get discouraged to succeed and tend to be more distracted in class because they believe they are not a "math person". Personally, I've been in classrooms where a teacher asked their students if anyone here is not a math person! Right there they are discouraging their students with this incorrect term and stereotype that since they had trouble in the past, they will again continue their year with that mindset of not doing well in class. I plan to change this in my classrooms. I want to encourage my students that everyone can succeed in math, and that I will guide them to reach their full potential.
