We offer a wide range of instrumental music lessons including piano, jazz piano, violin, cello, voice, acoustic guitar, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, flute and theory lessons (music grade 4 and upwards).

Ute Smythe - Violin

Ute studied Electrical Engineering at Wits University and Music through Unisa. She has 30 years of orchestral experience, both professional and community, as well as chamber music, especially Early Music using historical instruments. Ute has taught violin and coached ensembles in public and private schools, privately and at an Outreach Centre. She believes the biggest motivator to practice is to play music together, so students are encouraged to join groups for their enjoyment. All four of her children learned various musical instruments, two of them to a professional level.

Anastasia Loukakis - acoustic guitar

Anastasia Loukakis is the Guitar and Rock Band teacher at ACS. She is passionate about teaching guitar and has experience in preparing students to perform individually or in ensembles. She has experience in Classical, Jazz, Electronic music and Film Composition, Classical and Jazz theory as well as individual and ensemble performance experience. Anastasia has her Bachelor of Music from the University of the Witwatersrand and she recently obtained her Post Graduate Certificate In Education from Cornerstone University. She is an experienced class Music teacher and has completed for Orff Level 2 qualification. Anastasia teaches a variety of styles of music and particularly enjoys teaching contemporary music, rock, pop, and Jazz. She tailors her teaching method to each student’s individual needs to ensure that they get the most out of their lessons and that students stay inspired so that their passion for music continues to grow.

Daniela Martis - voice

Daniela is one of the singing teachers at Assumption Convent School. She has been teaching for 3 years and has taught students of all ages.She completed my BMus Honours equivalent at the end of 2019 where she specialized in Classical Singing, Singing Methodology, and Music Psychology.Daniela enjoys teaching children and assisting them with the correct techniques so they can sing in a healthy way that will allow them to sing for years to come. She believes in a holistic approach and tries to incorporate other necessary skills like aural, theory, and general music knowledge wherever possible. Daniela loves to make lessons fun and instill a love for music in whoever I teach.

Elizabeth Green - piano and flute

Elizabeth began piano lessons at the age of 8. She was influenced by my father who was a very talented pianist. She enjoyed attending concerts as a child. Elizabeth started flute lessons when she was a teenager. She was a member of the wind band at the College of Music in Cape Town. She became a member of Benoni City Orchestra when she relocated to Johannesburg. She played piano and flute in worship groups at church.Elizabeth thoroughly enjoys teaching music. She believes it's a privilege to share and a wonderful life skill to have. She ensures that her students find fun in their music lessons. Elizabeth and her husband have shared their love for music with their children. Due to her teaching philosophy, Elizabeth’s students have excelled in graded music examinations as well as The National Eisteddfod.

Francois Moller - Voice and Piano

François Möller was born in Johannesburg and started singing and piano at the age of four. He obtained a BMus degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1995, under the tutelage of Emma Renzi, traininginitially as a baritone. In his third year, he participated in masterclasses presented by Ms. Renzi, which werebroadcast on SABC radio. Whilst at Wits, he sang ‘Aeneas’ in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, ‘The Father’ in theworld premiere of van Wyk’s Fiela’s Child, and ‘Lucas’ in Purcell’s The Two Drunkards. In his final year atWits he was also awarded a special prize as Category Winner in the International Eisteddfod Composer’sCompetition for best Flute and Guitar Sonata. In 1997 he traveled to Germany where he received vocalcoaching from Prof. Hanno Blaschke at the München Hochschule für Musik. From 1996 to 1998 he was asoloist at the Pretoria State Theatre, where he sang, amongst others, the roles of ‘Daniel’ in Temmingh’sBuchuland and ‘The Innkeeper’ in Massenet’s Manon. He also sang the role of ‘Captain Tarnitz’ inRomberg’s Student Prince for TOPAB, under the direction of Hans van Heerden and ‘Samuel’ in Verdi’s UnBallo in Maschera at the Lüneburg State Theatre in Germany 1999. Since returning to South Africa, he hassung ‘Schaunard’ in Puccini’s La Bohème and ‘Danilo’ in Lehár’s Merry Widow. In 2001 he participated as asoloist in the Dedel’ingoma Music-Theatre workshop, working with composers such as Dr. Khumalo andProf. Hofmeyer and in 2003 was a finalist in the Opera Queensland YAP Singing Competition. Since 2004he has been teaching piano and voice on a full-time basis at various institutions – King David Linkfield, StMary’s school, Helpmekaar college, Assumption Convent, and The National School of the Arts.

Sarah Green - Piano and cello

Sarah obtained her Bachelor of Music from the University of Witwatersrand in 2011. She then started her teaching career. She obtained her Post Graduate Certificate in Education in 2015 from UNISA. In 2021 she graduated with her Masters in Music Education from the University of Pretoria. She has experience teaching from grade 000 to matric subject music, as well leading various ensembles groups such as Rockband, orchestra, and Pipe band. She is passionate about music education and adjusts to the students learning styles. Sarah is a firm believer that music education is meant to be more than just a fun thing to do, it assists with mathematical and language skills and of course memory skills. Sarah teaches class music to the grade 8 and 9 girls at ACS as well as subject music grade 10 – 12. She conducts the High School choir and the worship team.
