Welcome! This booking page is for participants who have been invited to book in for Session 2 of the "Lifespan Snapshot" study at the Department of Psychology, University of Otago.
If you are not sure if you have done Session 1 of this study yet or not, please touch base with us by email before proceeding.
Who we are Seeking
Adults between the age of 55-75 years who have already completed Session 1 of this study.
As in Session 1, the room you will have to visit is up a flight of stairs in one of our old villas, and thus has no disability access. Please bring along any special glasses that you may require for looking at a computer, as you will have to see images and read text on a computer screen.
What it Involves
This study is a collection of different little tasks and questionnaires that we've put together as a collaboration between students from our Developmental Psychology labs. That way your participation will help many students at once, and you'll have a varied experience that should prove both interesting and entertaining!
For most people, session 2 will involve:
A mental visualisation task (e.g. visualise a familiar place in as much detail as possible) to see how that affects your thoughts and feelings.We will measure changes in your skin conductance (caused by microscopic changes in the sweat on your fingers) to assess your unconscious emotional response to different stimuli, such as an unexpected loud sound or a picture of a puppy versus a picture of a shark.We will ask you to play two short computer games: an online ball game where you interact with other players, and a reaction time task.
We have found that session duration varies a lot from person to person. Please allow 1.5 hours to be safe.
