CCS Areas of Expertise:·         Advancement advice for all career pathways, especially for URiM and women faculty·         Leadership·         Promotions  Dr. Stone is Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion of the Department of Medicine. She is a general internist and HIV/AIDS focused infectious disease specialist. She sees patients in the Phyllis Jen Center for Primary Care where she also precepts residents; on the inpatient side, she teaches on the ITU. Her research and scholarly writing focuses on health equity, primarily in HIV/AIDS care, as well as diversity and inclusion in health care, and healthcare leadership. With Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, she is the co-editor of the textbook HIV/AIDS in U.S. Communities of Color. She was for many years a residency director, so innovations in residency training remains one of her passions and one of her additional areas of scholarship. She currently serves as President of the Association of Chiefs and Leaders in General Internal Medicine (ACLGIM). Dr. Stone is the recipient of numerous awards, including most recently the 2020 W. Lester Henry Award for Advancing Diversity from the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the 2017 Community Hero Award from Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD).  

CCS Areas of Expertise:·         Clinical Research·         Physician Scientist Careers·         Leadership Dr. Martin is Vice Chair for Network Development and Innovative Care Solutions in the Department of Medicine and the Medical Director for Network Development in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Physician Organization.  Dr. Martin studied philosophy of science and the history of medicine before training in clinical medicine at University College and the Royal London Hospitals in London. He underwent postgraduate training in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Lahey Clinic. His clinical practice of cardiac electrophysiology is focused on a holistic approach to patient-centric management across the broad range of cardiac arrhythmias. Dr. Martin has a long history of working in Bolivia with patients suffering from Chagas’ disease and has a particular interest in this condition. Dr. Martin’s research interests have been concentrated on device-based therapies of arrhythmia, including the use of implanted devices to study the relationship between atrial fibrillation and stroke.  

CCS Areas of Expertise:·         Basic Science Research Careers·         Physician Scientist Careers Dr. Michel is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a cardiovascular medicine specialist in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. He leads a basic science research lab at BWH and also is engaged in several teaching programs at BWH and HMS that focus on the transitions faced by scientists and physician-scientists during their years of training. Dr. Michel’s lab uses biochemical and cell biological approaches to understand signal transduction pathways in the cardiovascular system. He is Co-Director of the Leder Human Biology Program at HMS and is a member of the Leadership Council of the Harvard-MIT MD-PhD Program.  His teaching activities engage graduate students, MD-PhD students, medical residents, and clinical and research fellows. Dr. Michel’s clinical interests include general cardiology and ischemic heart disease.    

CCS Areas of Expertise: ·         Clinical Research ·         Leadership ·         Physician Scientist Careers ·         HMS Promotions Mentorship   Dr. Goldhaber is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Associate Chief and Clinical Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is Section Head of Vascular Medicine and Director of the Thrombosis Research Group.  Dr. Goldhaber’s clinical interests include general cardiology as well as novel oral anticoagulants, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, reduction of inflammation to prevent myocardial infarction, and the epidemiology, management, and prevention of pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). His extensive research and publications focus on PE, DVT, and stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. He chairs the steering committee of the ATTRACT Trial, which is studying the optimal method to manage massive DVT. He is principal investigator of clinical and observational trials of PE and DVT prevention and treatment as well as of stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. His research has received funding from the National Institutes of Health.

CCS Areas of Expertise: ·         Clinical Teaching ·         Medical Education   Dr. Gottlieb is an Associate Professor of Medicine at HMS and she has been a primary care physician at Brookside Community Health Center since 1981. In addition to providing care to multiple generations of patients, the majority immigrants from Central and South America and the Caribbean, she has developed innovative clinical and public health programs to improve the health of populations and the community. She has taught multiple courses at HMS since 1987, including Patient-Doctor 1, the Primary Care Clerkship and is Co-Chair of the Global and Community Health Track in the Scholars in Medicine/Pursuing Inquiry in Medicine Course. She precepts residents in the BWH Medicine Residency Program, where she is also Director of Ambulatory Faculty Development. Based on her decades of working with immigrant and under-served communities, she has a deep commitment to developing meaningful community-based experiences for students through service-learning, clinical care, and innovative public health and practice-based projects. Her interests in this area include the pedagogy of community-engaged teaching and learning, concrete skill-building for students in community settings, and learning through reflection.  

CCS Areas of Expertise:·         Clinical Research·         Leadership·         Physician Scientist Careers  Dr. Massarotti is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine. She practices general rheumatology with special interests in rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, providing care to an established and consistently growing large regional and national referral base. Dr. Massarotti has been recognized as an outstanding clinician numerous times by leading publications including Boston Magazine, Best Doctors, and US News and World Report.  As Director of Clinical Trials in the Lupus Center, she has been the principal investigator of numerous trials of new therapeutics for lupus and helped make BWH one of the most prominent sites for lupus care in the country. Through her patient care and clinical trials work, Dr. Massarotti has been invited to deliver presentations to national and international professional societies. As Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the DOM, she oversees both inpatient and outpatient activities, where some of her work over the past few years has included the implementation of a new patient call center, facilitating patient transfers between BWH and BWFH, re-organization of the cardiology inpatient service, and helping to integrate telemedicine into the work lives of busy physicians.

CCS Areas of Expertise:·         Clinical Research Careers·         Leadership·         Physician Scientist Careers·         Promotions  Dr. Seely is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Vice Chair of Faculty Development in the Department of Medicine, and Director of Clinical Research, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Hypertension. She also serves as the DOM Promotions Committee co-chair.  As a clinical investigator, Dr. Seely focuses on gestational diabetes and preeclampsia as windows into future cardiometabolic health. Her work uses mobile technology to deliver lifestyle interventions to women with these pregnancy complications. As an endocrinologist, cares for women with endocrine and hypertensive complications of pregnancy. As Vice Chair of Faculty Development, she supports career development needs of departmental faculty through all career stages. She has been recognized for her mentoring by her receipt of local and national awards.

CCS Areas of Expertise:·         Population Research·         Clinical Trials·         Promotions Dr. Julie Buring is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), and Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH).The primary focus of her research is the epidemiology of chronic diseases, primarily cardiovascular disease and cancer, and especially among women. Dr. Buring has served as Principal Investigator or Multiple Principal Investigator of a number of large-scale cohort studies and randomized clinical trials, including the Women’s Health Study, a randomized trial evaluating low dose aspirin and vitamin E in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer, currently in post-treatment extended follow-up (with Dr. I-Min Lee); VITAL, a recently completed trial of vitamin E and fish oil in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer which is now in extended observational follow-up (with Dr. JoAnn Manson); and an observational study evaluating the use and effectiveness of a model integrative clinic (the Osher Clinical Center) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (with Dr. Peter Wayne). Dr. Buring has a longstanding and substantial commitment to teaching and training, nationally and internationally.  She serves as co-Director (with Dr. Paul Ridker) of an NHLBI-funded T32 training grant in the Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease, and directs introductory core courses in epidemiology and randomized clinical trials at HSPH and HMS. She is highly involved in career development activities at BWH, and is co-Chair of the Promotions Committee of the BWH Department of Medicine. She is Chair of the HMS Institutional Review Board, and a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Board of Scientific Counselors for Clinical Science and Epidemiology.
