About the company
Budd has plied its trade as a quintessential gentlemen’s haberdashery and shirtmaker since its foundation in 1910. The shop and cutting room have been located in Mayfair’s Piccadilly Arcade since day one and are its oldest tenants. Without our founder, Harold Budd, where would we be today? Harold Budd was one of the Piccadilly Arcade’s original tenants and the first to move back in after the bombings of 1941. He laid down the blueprint for much of what makes Budd tick today; be it our Budd collar, the Budd stripe, our Budd bows, or our enduring love for Madder silks.Our team

Kieran Wright
Budd’s Retail Manager, Kieran Wright mans our Live Chat and has been holding the fort at Budd over the last twelve months. He is the first point of contact for many customers and has proved something of an oracle. He works to a soundtrack of the Goldberg Variations.

James MacAuslan
James was employed by Budd as the company’s first apprentice in over twenty years after Mr Butcher spotted his potential during a stint of work experience in the cutting room. Under the guidance of both John and Darren, he thrived, to become an established shirt cutter in his own right, bringing a perfect balance of appreciation for the discipline and tradition of bespoke shirt cutting and a forward thinking approach that embraces his love for fashion and individual creativity. James closely follows and advises his customers shirting needs, but can often offer a twist or subtle note of difference, something often seen in his own sartorial turnout.

Senior Cutter, Darren’s infectious baritone laugh and convivial manner echoes through our premises at regular intervals! 2017 sees him celebrate thirty years as a shirt cutter. Darren followed a traditional shirt making apprenticeship into the trade, starting out at Bowring & Arundel in Savile Row before progressing on to New & Lingwood, Dege & Skinner and briefly Davies & Sons. He had long admired the work and authenticity of Budd’s work and didn’t hesitate for one second when asked to join the team seven years ago.

Menswear aficionado, James Couzens joined the Budd team in the Spring of this year. He had long been familiar to Budd both as a customer and friend, so we feel that we wouldn’t be remiss in saying it already feels like he is part of the furniture.

John Butcher
Head Cutter, Mr John Butcher is perhaps the most revered bespoke shirt cutter in the trade, and the humblest to boot. A stalwart of Budd’s cutting room for more than half a century, he began his career as an apprentice at Edoardo & Butler at aged 16. Mr Butcher has cut shirts for a galaxy of individuals and has an unparalleled knowledge of cut, construction and cloth. His dominance of the cutting room is displayed not only in the calibre of the shirts he cuts, but by the dent in the floor, where he has stood at his board overlooking the Arcade since his very first days with the company.

Andrew Rowley
Andrew Rowley has been a familiar face at Budd for a very long time indeed. When it comes to men's shirts, dress codes and accessories, there is little he does not know. A gold mine of sayings, he regularly brings a smile to customer’s faces with quips such as “cut for men, not boys” when describing our nightshirts and enquring whether a pocket square is “for show or for blow.” Decades of Budd service (he joined in the early 1980s) have given him an expert eye for Madder silks and so much more. He is a veritable oracle...and part of the furniture.
