Guided Reading Session
In this one hour session, I will work with your scholar to help them reach their reading goals! I have experience teaching reading levels I through S on the Fountas and Pinnell reading scale. I currently have a proven track record of 91% of my '20-21 cohort reading on and above grade level.
Scholars will practice reading comprehension skills, vocabulary decoding, identifying the main idea of a text, determining the genre of a text, identifying character feelings and traits, non-fiction text features, text to self connections, fluency and phonics.
Levels i-k: early second grade reading level
Levels l-n: mid to end of the year second grade reading level
Levels o-q: early-mid third grade reading level
Levels r-s: early fourth grade reading level

In this one hour session, I will help your child learn phonemic awareness skills! I am currently a 2nd grade Reading Interventionist who focuses primarlily with struggling scholars in phonics.
Mastering Phonics and segmentation (breaking down the sounds in a word) is extremely important to improve accuracy and fluency in reading. Some of the skills that will be practiced are:
-Vowel teams (like “ae”, “ee”,”ie”)
-Diagraphs (two letters that make one sound: “ch,”sh”,”wh”)
-segmentation and blending (breaking down the sounds of each letter and blending them together to form the correct word sound)
-Handwriting (how to master writing words correctly and neatly on lined paper)
-Vocabulary (how to use phonics rules to correctly spell words based on segmentation
-CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) words
-Dictation
