Virgin Gorda is the second most populated island in the British Virgin Islands and is known for its natural beauty and awe-inspiring topography. The island itself is known by many as the “Fat Virgin” as this what Christopher Columbus used to call it. Supposedly, from a distance the island looks like a woman laying down on her side, showing off her hourglass figure.

The centrepiece of this dramatic area on Virgin Gorda's north shore is The Baths, a geological wonder comprised of awe-inspiring granite boulders, which form sheltered sea pools on the beach's edge. The protected area also includes Devil's Bay, which can be reached from The Baths by a series of ladders scaling the boulders. Just north of The Baths, Spring Bay is reached by a separate road and includes a lovely white sand beach.

Encompassing the beaches and rocky shoreline at the southwestern tip of Virgin Gorda, The Baths is a collection of massive granite boulders as large as 40 feet in diameter, with white sand beaches and secret rock pools. The cavernous surroundings are a result of the molten rock seeping up into the existing volcanic rock layers; because the molten rock did not reach the surface it cooled slowly and formed the hard crystalline granite layer. Further shrinkage and cracking formed blocks, which were exposed when the softer volcanic rock above eroded away. Weathering rounded the corners of the boulders to what they are today. These massive boulders are also found at Fallen and Broken Jerusalem. A series of steps and rope handrails guide explorers along a trail through the boulders from the beach at The Baths to the sandy expanse that is Devil's Bay. This popular daytime anchourage is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Named for an early Dutch settler and former pirate, Jost Van Dyke runs deep with rugged scenery and colorful folklore. Explore the East End’s natural sea-formed Jacuzzi, or observe whales and dolphins.

White Bay is one of the most popular beaches in the British Virgin Islands. It has numerous bars and restaurants dotting the shores so that you can easily bar and food hop! UNIQUELY UNSPOILED

Anegada is one of the archipelago’s most unique islands, given its nearly level coral and limestone topography (in contrast to the volcanic origin of most of the region’s other islands). In fact, Anegada only rises 28 feet above sea level at its highest point! 

The island is also surrounded by striking reefs, underwater caves, tunnel formations and age-old shipwrecks, making it a popular spot for snorkelers and SCUBA divers. Expect to spot needle fish, bonefish, stingrays, parrot fish, and other native species. 

Nature enthusiasts will also discover much to love on Anegada, thanks to a largely isolated ecosystem that incorporates several interesting native species (such as rock iguanas, wild orchids, lush tropical vegetation and colorful exotic birds. Be sure not to miss the nature trail at Bones Bight, or the views at Nutmeg Point during your exploration. Looking for a quiet, contemplative beach for swimming or sunbathing? Check out the quiet shores of Cow Wreck Beach, Flash of Beauty, Bones Bight and Windlass Bight. 

There’s plenty of human history to discover on Anegada, as well, from ancient Arawak conch mounds in the East End, to wreckages of numerous Spanish galleons, American privateers and British Galleons in the surrounding waters.

You will definitely want to stop by "Coral Island" - a mountain of conch shells / conch collection site that was started by the Arawak Indians hundreds of years ago. Whilst snorkeling here and around the Anegada reefs, you can be sure to see turtles, bonefish, stingrays, lobster traps, and plenty more!

Common USVI Water Taxi Pick Up & Drop Off Locations

The most common STT (St. Thomas) pick up location is American Yacht Harbor in Red Hook.  This is roughly a 35-45 minute taxi ride from St. Thomas airport. Ground transportation costs are $150.00 for 1-5 persons and $25.00 per person for groups of 6 or more (including luggage).  

Are you in St. John?  Cruz Bay is the most popular pick up and drop off location.
