This course is aimed at the experienced screenprinter who wishes to develop existing skills under the supervision of an experienced screenprinting tutor. It will allow you to build upon your skills and develop confidence through a project-based weekend, which will cover advanced techniques including utilising manual positives, found positives, conventional film positives and digital imaging onto film. You will work with direct stencil based imaging, such as manual drawn stencil, washout methods, and paper stencils and C.M.Y.K print techniques.

This experimental weekend course exploring the principles of photo etching will be taught by experience tutor, Al. Part of the course will be spent preparing artwork to expose onto plates using computers and hand-drawn processes. You will learn how to coat and expose photo etching plates and produce final prints. Bring a photograph, drawing or digital image no larger than A4 to work with. Prior experience of etching and basic computer skills are required.

This weekend course taught by tutor, Al, is all about aquatint; an etching process which enables you to create a wide range of tonal effects in your prints from very subtle to rich dark tones. Throughout this weekend course you will learn about step bite, sugar lift, spit bite, soap ground aquatint and multi-plate printing with lots of practical demonstrations and opportunity to try each process. The focus will be on experimenting with each process, allowing you to further develop these skills beyond the class. Prior etching experience required.

This course will introduce you to multi-plate etching, opening up endless possibilities for colour printing. Offsetting an etched image from one plate on to one or more plates to achieve pin-point registration will be demonstrated. You will make your own plates and be encouraged to experiment with colour, looking at a la poupe inking (with multiple colours on individual plates) and overlapping colour. The tutor will work with each participant to realise a finished multi-plate print.

You will learn how to make the dough and the process of forming the paste using wheat powder and plain flour for chine collé. Following a brief demonstration by Lin, you will produce your own monoprint to use to create a chine collé piece by the end of the day. Suitable for beginners, no prior experience required.

This one-day course introduces the laser cutter as a tool to make woodblocks that will print digitally made images – a marriage of the latest and oldest technology.You will learn how to split a digital image up in to dots and produce a file that the lasercutter will use to engrave into wood. The aim of this weekend course is to introduce participants to a wide range of monotype techniques through collage, drawing and multi-plate processes. Aimed at the experienced artist and printmaker, this course will encourage participants to pursue their own artistic vision using monotype as a markmaking tool, exploring the differences between monoprint and monotype and learning how each can be achieved by introducing additional techniques. A variety of marks can be achieved manually or with the use of an etching press and both will be explored over the two days. The tutor's approach will be energetic and open, as each participant's individual style will dictate the direction of the workshop.

New to printmaking? This taster course will explore several printing techniques including monoprinting, woodcut, screenprint and etching.

An introduction to the processes will begin with a visit to our Archive room to look at examples from our collection. Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, Ken Currie, Christine Borland, Ashley Cook and Alasdair Gray are just some of the artists whose work you will see before trying the processes for yourself. This course takes place over five short Wednesday evening sessions (3 hours) and one full day Sunday session (dedicated to etching).

Glasgow Print Studio, Glasgow Press, and Print Clan are collaborating to run this new short course which gives you the chance to discover three diverse printmaking studios in Glasgow over three weeky sessions. Each week you will be given an introduction to one of the studios and the chance to use their specialist facilities and learn from experienced staff. 

You will try letterpress and screen printing onto both paper and fabric in this exciting new joint venture between the three studios. Over the three sessions, you will produce a poster using letterpress, a screen printed artwork or card, and a screen printed silk panel. Please note: participants should available for all three dates (see below).
