TransCare+ is a community-based organization run by and for queer and gender diverse folx. We strive to centre holistic, community-focused, and anti-colonial understandings of care and wellness in a way that is accessible to queer and gender diverse folx of various lived experiences. Jacob Barry
Jacob Barry (they/he) identifies as a white, queer, transmasculine person and has both lived and professional experience working with 2SLGBTQIAA+ communities. In addition to a Master’s in Gender Studies, Jacob holds a human services certificate with a specialization in mental health and addictions and has completed peer support training from Stella’s Place (ON). Jacob has worked in social services providing frontline education, mentorship, and mental health support for 8 years and has taken extensive training on providing care to 2SLGBTQIAA+ individual (including trainings from Rainbow Health Ontario, Trans Care BC, CPATH, TPATH, and the Community Based Research Centre). Jacob’s approach to peer support and community-based education is informed by the knowledge of queer, gender diverse, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), disabled, mentally ill, fat, and poverty- working-class folx and communities, and uses a harm reduction, anti-oppressive, and intersectional lens.

One-on-One Peer Support Consultation
Our one-on-one peer support programming connects queer and gender diverse folx 14+ to a certified queer and/or gender diverse peer support worker. Peer support programming offers trauma-informed, strengths-based support by aiding in the development of wellness tools, assisting with accessing gender affirming services and resources, and providing a space to ask questions on variety of queer and gender related topics.
The consultation appointment is a free 30-minute session where you and a peer support worker can go over your needs, goals, and develop a peer support plan. Please book a consultation before scheduling regular visits with a peer support worker.
