With nearly seven years of experience at Sports Connection, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with athletes across all levels and age groups. My passion for sports and coaching runs deep, and over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to helping young athletes develop their skills, build confidence, and grow both on and off the court.In addition to my role at Sports Connection, I’ve coached at both the local and travel levels, gaining valuable experience in player development, team dynamics, and competitive strategy. Whether it’s introducing fundamentals to beginners or refining techniques for seasoned players, I strive to create a positive, encouraging environment where athletes can thrive.My goal is to inspire and support each player’s journey—fostering not only their athletic ability but also life skills like discipline, resilience, and teamwork.

Ray Gray is an author, former host of the award-winning show Tiny Chair Talks, and a leading mental health trainer, performance coach, and motivational speaker. With over 35 years of experience in volleyball—as a player, coach, and trainer—Ray is passionate about helping young athletes grow both on and off the court.Growing up with ADHD, Ray was often labeled as “bad,” which shaped how he saw himself. While school was a struggle, sports became his outlet and lifeline. He earned his GED, pursued a degree in Occupational Therapy, and became a certified Youth Substance Abuse Instructor.In 2023, after 17 years in the workforce, Ray founded The Grayhound Group LLC, offering motivational speaking, mental health coaching, and professional development. At the heart of the company is the Grayhounds Training Academy (GTA), a volleyball performance program focused on developing the mind, body, and behavior of athletes. Through GTA, Ray and his team have worked with over 700 clients—from beginners to professionals—helping players earn scholarships and build the mental strength to succeed in life. Known as the top Mental Health Trainer and Performance Coach in the NC/SC/GA region, Ray has built his reputation entirely through word of mouth. His mission is to shift the mindset of young athletes, helping them break barriers and believe in their power.
