Experience Elmley's wide range of wildlife on one of our evening Walking Safaris and access parts of the reserve not available to the public. Your guide will tailor the exact route according to the best wildlife activity around at that time and ground conditions, but will include our best owl spots. Nature's unpredictability is part of the magic of watching wildlife, you never really know what is around the corner!

Each tour is at a gentle walking pace with several stops but a moderate level of fitness is required. Please ensure you have weather appropriate clothing, water and enclosed sturdy shoes, as well as sun-cream and hats when the weather allows. 

Your ticket includes entry to the reserve around your Tour time, so please feel free to self-guide on our routes within the reserve opening hours.

These are 2 hour walking experiences. Depending on the season, witness Marsh Harriers soaring back to their single reedbed roosts, Hobbys snatching up dragonflies, Owls hunting, Peregrine falcons whizzing past and dancing Bearded Reedlings.

A short wildlife walk to discover Elmley’s wildlife jewels on a British wildlife safari! Birds of prey, owls, egrets, wildfowl, waders, Brown Hares, and more. Venture out onto our nature reserve in areas you wouldn’t normally be able to access.

This is a perfect opportunity for you to explore the public and private areas of the Reserve within a short walk from the farm and car park area, in the safe hands of our in-house Warden and/or Nature Guide.

Whilst discovering the breath-taking views of the vast marshland landscape, with bright, wide-open blue skies, you can soak in some of nature’s ‘goodness’ with your very own guide and binoculars to help you along the way. Weather and Wildlife dependent, our in-house guide will adapt to these conditions and take you on one of three off-grid and new routes through the marsh, to help you immerse in your surroundings for an unforgettable adventure here at Elmley.

Taking part in Elmley's monthly Young Nature Wardens' activities are an exciting way to explore the Reserve and get closer to the wildlife we share it with. If your children or grandchildren are keen to learn about wildlife and love the outdoors, then dress for the weather and help the Nature Reserve Wardens monitor wildlife and have fun on the Reserve.

Each session is different and seasonal. Discover small mammals, moths, butterflies, birds, and more, or perhaps plant a tree, or make a bug hotel.

Owls are a fascinating family of birds, and we are fortunate to have 4 species wintering at Elmley Nature Reserve.

What to expect?
This workshop will help you to understand what makes an owl an owl, how to identify them and conserve them, and unravel the fascinating adaptations these species have.
