This treatment procedure involves a steady stream of medicated oil being poured on the forehead. This is typically done after 30 minutes of full body massage. The name Shirodhara comes from the Sanskrit words Shiras meaning 'head' and Dhara meaning 'flow'. The liquids used in Shirodhara depend on the conditions being treated, but can include oil/ milk/ buttermilk/coconut water or even plain water. There are the specialized forms of Shirodhara called Thailadhara, Ksheeradhara, Takradhara and Jaladhara. As the treatment is very relaxing in nature it is recommended for rejuvinative treatments.
