About the company
Individual and shared lessons are offered in singing, drums, guitar, bass, ukulele and piano. BFSM offer lessons for students starting from 4 years old.
Group classes which allow students to make friends while improving musically such as Pre-school Music Class and Glee Club for the kids, Choir and The Band Project for adults.
Other creative opportunities are available at the BFSM Creative Hub; craft classes, drama groups & holiday programs are another way to get involved!
BFSM offers tuition in theory & aural skills for anyone interested, including VCE & tertiary students who are looking for extra support or assistance with developing their performance programs and AMEB guidance is offered for those who are looking at sitting exams.
Performance opportunities are open to all students as another way of applying skills learnt and to develop experience in a supportive environment. With impressive on-site facilities, students are able to practise where they perform which gives students the confidence they need when in front of the audience.
The teachers at BFSM are passionate about music and teaching. Teachers share their knowledge, pass on skills learnt through experience & training and they support their students in the desire to advance musically; to become a professional musician or to tick it off their bucket list.
Lessons are also available online, so if you are unable to make it to Greensborough for your lessons, book online!

Along with his wife Bianca – Dayna owns, manages and teaches at BFSM since its opening in term 2, 2013.
Dayna is an accomplished Melbourne drummer and vocalist who has been working professionally for 16 years with original and cover acts around Melbourne.
Dayna studied at Box Hill Institute under the tuition of Tony Floyd, Robi Parolin and John Corniola and has had private lessons himself for over 8 years under the tuition of Robi Parolin. Dayna attended a drumming intensive workshop with Gospel Artist - Chris Coleman and continued on with one on one tuition.
One of Dayna's earlier achievements was placing third in the intermediate section of ‘Australia’s Best Up and Coming Drummer’ competition. A national competition to discover drumming talent.
Dayna has been teaching from his home studio and other local music schools for over 14 years. He has a great rapport with students of all ages and abilities, using his experience in a variety of styles to inspire and challenge his students.
Dayna has a passion for live & studio sound engineering and has produced a number of original and cover band demos, E.Ps and live shows at BFSM and at other venues and studios. He has a keen eye for videography and movie editing and loves the ‘behind the scenes’ work just as much as ‘on stage’.
His latest project is performing as Mick Fleetwood in "The Fleetwood Pac", performing in theatres all around Australia.

Jess is a Graduate of Box Hill Institute, in her time there she had a strong interest in choir, vocal technique and different teaching methods as well as learning Guitar and Piano.
Jess has been singing since she can remember growing up in a musical family and has been performing for over a decade.
As a performer and vocalist, Jess thrives on challenges from getting the "high notes", close harmonies, exploring vocal tones as well as a good understanding of performance anxiety for those thinking about taking the leap.
If you’re interested in songwriting Jess will enthusiastically get the ball rolling, she has a good understanding of song structures, lyrics and melody and enjoys seeing what students come up with on their own.
Jess has held Songwriting workshops at BFSM, has released her own music and performs her songs regularly around Melbourne Venues. She is currently recording her debut full length Album, always keeping herself creative.
On most weekend mornings she is a regular Busker at the Melbourne Farmers Markets group and continues to pursue performing at every opportunity.

Lachie’s love for drumming began during his high school years, after being encouraged to play in the school musical. Throughout high school he was fortunate enough to study with Rob Brens and Ryan Menezes, two highly regarded professional drummers in Melbourne.
Lachie completed his studies at Box Hill Institute in 2019 under the tuition of Tony Floyd, Dave Beck and Robi Parolin. In his final year, he was nominated by the university to be a participant in the Future Leaders Jazz Award 2020. Shortly after, he was selected as the winner and invited to play in the 2020 Ubud Jazz Festival in Bali.
Lachie has now been playing drums for 9 years and has more recently been gigging around Melbourne with some jazz, pop and funk groups. He is a creative and unique musician who continues to explore new ideas and concepts.
Lachie has 4 years of teaching experience and believes that learning the drums is an exciting and rewarding experience. He strives to make his lessons engaging and fun for students, inspiring their love for music.

Matthew’s enthusiasm for music began at an early age. This lead to him committing to and making the most of any musical opportunity that came his way growing up. Especially the challenge of singing and accompanying himself.
Prior to his further studies Matthew had an appreciation for Rock, Blues, and Folk music. However upon starting his studies at Box Hill Institute he was introduced to Soul and Jazz music and there was no looking back. It was here Matthew embraced learning about vocal technique, teaching methods, and music theory.
Upon graduating Matthew has taught throughout the East and South-Eastern suburbs. Outside of teaching he has performed and collaborated with many different groups both locally and internationally. Most notably award winning Melbourne a Cappella group ‘Drums of War’.
As a teacher Matthew enjoys helping students find and set their own goals; to get the most out of their lessons and leave loving music.

Unlike many musicians, Nathan began his musical journey in his late teens. Influenced by the likes of Queen, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Paul Kelly, he decided to take music seriously.
As of 2018 Nathan Dixon had completed 7 years of tertiary education including certificates, an Advanced Diploma and a Bachelor of Applied Music - Performance.
Since completing his degree, Nathan has written an album, worked as a session musician and even sang for a film score.
Through teaching Nathan has lead several ensembles and aspiring musicians toward their goals through encouragement and team work. He also leads charity work by repairing and refurbishing donation instruments and putting them into the hands of foster families, people struggling with illness and at risk youths. Nathan believes accessibility is key and with the right attitude and a helping hand anyone can achieve their goals, great or small.

From running around at folk and bluegrass music festivals to singing in choirs, learning piano, writing songs, performing in bands, recording/releasing original tunes, and teaching; Sarah can’t remember a time when music wasn’t part of her life.
Sarah enjoys the technicalities of learning music, as much as the social and emotional aspects. With the intention of students building a self-motivated practise routine, Sarah tailors lessons to individuals' goals and interests. She meets students with patience and understanding, supporting them through the discomfort that can arise in practise and performance.
Recognising that music is a life-long endeavour, Sarah is continuously seeking to further her own skills as a vocalist/pianist/songwriter/performer and strives to share her musical experience, love, and knowledge in any way she can.

Vincent Nguyen

Vincent has been playing guitar since the age of 8. Finding love for hard rock and blues music at a young age, Vincent also became interested in production and electronic music in his teenage years. Marrying the aspects of music creation, Vincent independently writes, performs, records and produces music when he's not playing live in projects around Melbourne.
Vincent completed his Bachelor of Music Performance at Collarts in 2019 after previous courses in sound recording and producing at RMIT. Throughout his time at Collarts, Vincent built upon his roots in rock and blues music with a wide variety of playing styles; namely jazz and neo-soul.
Guided by student's goals and interests in music, Vincent approaches lessons with a focus on building confidence and independence with the instrument; largely incorporating the use of aural skills and conceptual learning in his lessons.

After completing VCE music, Hayley continued to study music obtaining her Cert III, Cert IV and Advanced Diploma of Music Performance at NMIT and then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts - Applied Music Performance, majoring in drums at Box Hill Institute.
Hayley has been teaching music privately and in primary schools and loves meeting her students where they are and helping them to gain the skills and confidence to get them where they want to be.

The band explores repertoire together in a supportive, educational environment where they can then perform in front of an audience at the end of each term.

A “happy failure” is when we stuff up but find it funny; it is the embodiment of the growth mindset we all try to teach and instil in our children, but often have so much difficulty doing.
Happy Failures welcomes students who are neurodiverse and may have additional learning needs. And if it’s a student who is already bright, bubbly, and bursting at the seams to hit the stage, then they’ll fit right in as well.
Participation in Happy Failures may be therapeutic, but not in an in-your-face kind of way. It’s open to all, as we all need to find better ways to live, laugh and get along with each other.
Icebreaker games to welcome the participants into the room and connect with each other.

Happy Failures - Secondary (Years 7-12)
Playshop participants will have fun with each other and find joy in making mistakes.
A “happy failure” is when we stuff up but find it funny; it is the embodiment of the growth mindset we all try to teach and instil in our children, but often have so much difficulty doing.
Happy Failures welcomes students who are neurodiverse and may have additional learning needs. And if it’s a student who is already bright, bubbly, and bursting at the seams to hit the stage, then they’ll fit right in as well.
Participation in Happy Failures may be therapeutic, but not in an in-your-face kind of way. It’s open to all, as we all need to find better ways to live, laugh and get along with each other.

Voice exploration
Children are encouraged to use their voice in different ways! Through nursery rhymes, props and games.
Song Time
A song is set each term and this is when parents and children are taught the song with live accompaniment, exposing children to the magic of live music!
Sensory Social Fun
This is a chance during the session for participants to interact and play with other children within the class.
Percussion
Rhythm is an important part of feeling and understanding music. Rhythm is explored through percussion instruments with fun songs to dance and shake to.
Book Time
To wind down, a book is read to the group with melodies and music set to the pictures and story.
Lullaby
A lullaby is a beautiful way to end each class, where children and parents cuddle and sing to each other.
