Personalised Flight Experience: Your session can include multiple take-offs and landings, emergency procedures, or scenic flights over iconic landmarks such as flying beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, over Manhattan, performing the renowned Kai Tak approach in Hong Kong, or simulating the “Sully” Hudson River landing. Please discuss your preferences with your instructor upon arrival so they can tailor the session accordingly.

While the experience maintains key operational aspects of flying a 747, some complex procedures have been simplified to ensure the session remains enjoyable without compromising the integrity of the simulation. Your instructor will provide detailed explanations and answer any technical questions you may have.
You are welcome to bring up to four additional guests who can share your flying time. These guests may take turns flying or simply observe from one of the cockpit’s observer seats. All accompanying guests require an additional person ticket via the product options to gain access to the hangar and simulator.
If you would like to extend your experience, 15-minutes can be added for £39.95. This extra time can be used to explore more emergency scenarios, additional landings, or allow your guests to participate in flying.
Accessibility: Wheelchair access is available to the cabin area; however, the cockpit door width limits wheelchair entry. Anyone wishing to enter the cockpit and pilot the aircraft must be able to walk and sit independently in the pilot seat. You will sit in the left or right seat and take off and land anywhere in the world guided by one of our highly experienced instructors for an experience you won't forget.What can you expect from your visit?Everybody learns at different rates and have different levels of ability so your experience will be tailored to your needs.Assuming you are a novice, your instructor will spend 5 minutes or so going through the basic controls and instruments, getting you to handle them to get a feel for how they work and their respective actions.Following this, your instructor will programme a flight from and to an airport of your choice. What You Can Expect During Your Visit

Introduction to the Simulator and Controls: For beginners or those new to flight simulation, your instructor will spend approximately five to ten minutes introducing you to the key controls, instruments, and cockpit layout. You will get practical experience handling the controls to gain a solid understanding of how each function affects the aircraft.
Flight Programming and Customisation: Following your introduction, your instructor will program a flight departing from and arriving at an airport of your choice. Whether you prefer a straightforward approach or a challenging landing, multiple attempts are encouraged, and the instructor will provide guidance and tips to help you succeed.
Personalised Flight Experience: Your session can include multiple take-offs and landings, emergency procedures, or scenic flights over iconic landmarks such as flying beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, over Manhattan, performing the renowned Kai Tak approach in Hong Kong, or simulating the “Sully” Hudson River landing. Please discuss your preferences with your instructor upon arrival so they can tailor the session accordingly.
Simulator Technical Details and Accessibility Information
The simulator utilizes authentic 747 cockpit components, calibrated to balance realism and accessibility. While the experience maintains key operational aspects of flying a 747, some complex procedures have been simplified to ensure the session remains enjoyable without compromising the integrity of the simulation. Your instructor will provide detailed explanations and answer any technical questions you may have.
You are welcome to bring up to four additional guests who can share your flying time. These guests may take turns flying or simply observe from one of the cockpit’s observer seats. All accompanying guests require an additional person ticket via the product options to gain access to the hangar and simulator.
If you would like to extend your experience, 15-minutes can be added for £39.95. This extra time can be used to explore more emergency scenarios, additional landings, or allow your guests to participate in flying.
Accessibility: Wheelchair access is available to the cabin area; however, the cockpit door width limits wheelchair entry. Anyone wishing to enter the cockpit and pilot the aircraft must be able to walk and sit independently in the pilot seat. Children aged seven and above may fly provided they are accompanied by an adult aged 16 or over, who must also be included in the booking as an additional person.
Children under seven years old will not be permitted inside the simulator area during operation. Non-paying guests, including children under seven, are not allowed to remain in the hangar while the simulator is running.

Take the Controls and Explore the Skies
Under the guidance of one of our highly experienced flight instructors, you’ll take the captain’s or first officer’s seat and experience the thrill of piloting a 747 anywhere in the world. Whether it's takeoffs, landings, or flying over world-famous landmarks, the session is entirely tailored to your group.
Here’s what to expect:
A brief introduction and familiarisation session (~5 minutes), where your instructor will walk you through the basic controls and instruments.
A custom flight set up to your chosen destination—whether it’s a simple takeoff and landing or a full scenic journey.

Not confident about landing on your first try? No problem—your instructor will guide you through it, and you’ll get another shot (with help if needed) to ensure a successful finish.

Flexible Participation and Observer Options
The standard package includes up to 4 people (2 adults + 2 children) who can choose to fly or spectate. You're free to divide the flying time however you wish.
Additional participants can be added at checkout for a small extra fee. They can either share your flight time or simply watch from the cockpit observer seats.
Please note that non-paying guests and children under 7 are not permitted in the hangar or simulator during the session unless prior approval has been given.
Real Aircraft, Real Feel—Simplified for Accessibility
While our simulator is based on authentic 747-400 cockpit components, the setup has been optimised to ensure it's fun, engaging, and accessible, especially for families and younger participants. Some complex real-world procedures may be simplified to ensure everyone can enjoy the session without needing pilot-level knowledge.
If you're curious about how the actual aircraft systems work, your instructor will be happy to explain them during your experience.
Due to cockpit dimensions and the position of the rudder pedals and control column, your instructor may assist with controls if needed—particularly for younger or smaller guests.
Accessibility and Safety Considerations
The simulator cabin is wheelchair accessible; however, the flight deck itself is not fully wheelchair accessible due to the narrow cockpit doorway.
All participants wishing to fly must be able to enter the cockpit unaided and sit safely in the flight seat.
Children must be at least 7 years old to participate in flying. An accompanying adult (aged 16+) is required.
Anyone arriving with children under 7 without prior agreement will be refused entry to the simulator, and due to safety and insurance restrictions, they cannot wait in the hangar during the session.

Flexible Participation and Observer Options
The standard package includes up to 6 people (2 adults + 4 children) who can choose to fly or spectate. You're free to divide the flying time however you wish.
Additional participants can be added at checkout for a small extra fee. They can either share your flight time or simply watch from the cockpit observer seats.
Please note that non-paying guests and children under 7 are not permitted in the hangar or simulator during the session unless prior approval has been given.
Real Aircraft, Real Feel—Simplified for Accessibility
While our simulator is based on authentic 747-400 cockpit components, the setup has been optimised to ensure it's fun, engaging, and accessible, especially for families and younger participants. Some complex real-world procedures may be simplified to ensure everyone can enjoy the session without needing pilot-level knowledge.
If you're curious about how the actual aircraft systems work, your instructor will be happy to explain them during your experience.
Due to cockpit dimensions and the position of the rudder pedals and control column, your instructor may assist with controls if needed—particularly for younger or smaller guests.
Accessibility and Safety Considerations
The simulator cabin is wheelchair accessible; however, the flight deck itself is not fully wheelchair accessible due to the narrow cockpit doorway.
All participants wishing to fly must be able to enter the cockpit unaided and sit safely in the flight seat.
Children must be at least 7 years old to participate in flying. An accompanying adult (aged 16+) is required.
Anyone arriving with children under 7 without prior agreement will be refused entry to the simulator, and due to safety and insurance restrictions, they cannot wait in the hangar during the session.

This ex British Airways genuine 747-400 top deck complete with cockpit has been converted into a totally immersive simulator with full 180 degree wrap around screen for a 100% geometrically correct single image. It is registration G-BYGA which was retired from service in March 2020 and the top deck has been preserved as The Deck 747 at City Airport, Barton Manchester. You will sit in the left or right seat and take off and land anywhere in the world guided by one of our highly experienced instructors for an experience you won't forget.What can you expect from your visit?Everybody learns at different rates and have different levels of ability so your experience will be tailored to your needs.Assuming you are a novice, your instructor will spend 5 minutes or so going through the basic controls and instruments, getting you to handle them to get a feel for how they work and their respective actions.Following this, your instructor will programme a flight from and to an airport of your choice. It’s unlikely you will pull off the landing first time, but don’t worry, you can try the landing again. We will help you with your second one to make sure its successful if we need to, so dont worry!The experience can include multiple take offs, landings, some emergency scenarios or why not go sightseeing by flying under the golden gate bridge, over manhattan, try a Kai Tak approach or a sully Hudson landing! Come prepared and advise your instructor on arrival what you would like to do within your timeslot! Each of these listings is for a different time amount and you can add on 15 minutes, if you wish to have shorter or longer, check out the other listings.As this is set in a real 747 aircraft and due to the complexities around using real aircraft cockpit components, the simulator is set up to be as enjoyable to fly as possible whilst maintaining as much of the realism of the flight controls (and that its not too complex either). With this in mind you may notice that some of the actual 747 processes may be missed for certain scenarios- but the full experience will be talked through by your instructor if you wish to know more information.This ticket includes 2 people to share the flying (or one just spectate), however if you wish to bring more, you can add on another 2 and they can share your flying time for the whole experience for an additional charge. How you split the flying time is up to you! If they just want to sit and watch though in one of the cockpit observer seats, that's perfectly fine, they don't have to fly. Please use the product options to add. If you wish to add additional time to the experience, you can do so. Add on another 15 minutes for £35 to allow for another emergency scenario or one of your guests to take over and perform the landing.Please be advised that whilst wheelchair access to the cabin is available, the flight deck door width limits this, therefore anyone wanting to come into the cockpit and in particular fly the aircraft must be able to walk in and sit down in the front cockpit seat unaided. Children aged 7 and over can fly as long as an adult comes along over age of 16 and will need to purchase an additional person in the options. If you would like to extend your experience, 15-minutes can be added for £39.95. This extra time can be used to explore more emergency scenarios, additional landings, or allow your guests to participate in flying.

Whether your fear is based on turbulence, claustrophobia, a previous bad experience, or simply not understanding how flying works, this session helps you explore those fears in a safe, grounded environment—without the pressure of a full course or a real flight.Held inside a real aircraftThe session takes place inside the authentic top deck of a decommissioned British Airways 747 (registration G-BYGA), now preserved as “The Deck” in our hangar at Barton Aerodrome, Manchester.You’ll get to see the aircraft up close, walk through the hangar, and even step onboard—giving you a chance to get used to the sights, sounds, and sensations of a real aircraft without leaving the ground.What’s Included in the Session:
Welcome & Introduction
You’ll be greeted at the front of our hangar by one of our experienced fear of flying instructors, who will talk you through the plan for the session.
Hangar Tour & Aircraft Walkaround
Your instructor will take you on a short tour of the hangar and provide a visual walkaround of the aircraft’s exterior. This time will be used to get to know you better, learn what concerns you have about flying, and begin to understand where your fear may have originated.
Discussion & Understanding Your Fear
Whether you already have a clear idea of what scares you (e.g. turbulence, take-off, being out of control), or you’re not quite sure, this is a chance to talk about it openly. Your instructor will ask supportive, non-judgmental questions and begin to build a picture of your specific anxieties.
✈️ Explore the Interior of the Aircraft
You’ll have the opportunity to step onboard the 747’s top deck and sit in one of the original business class seats. The instructor will walk you through what typically happens during a flight—from boarding and safety demonstrations to the sounds, movements, and procedures you can expect. This helps make the unknown more familiar, and therefore, less frightening.

Based on your discussion, your instructor will recommend a personalised path forward. This might include:

Preserved at Barton Aerodrome, Manchester, the hangar our beautiful deck is at home in will be decorated from top to bottom in the hope that the man in the big red suit might come and visit! The perfect day or evening out for the whole family to get into the festive spirit!Our Deck the Halls experience lasts approximately one hour, where the children will be checked in for their Santa experience by one of the busy elves, go on a treasure hunt, be invited to get involved with the others in group games, crafts and competitions and even have the chance to get behind the controls in the original cockpit of the aircraft and help one of our Elf pilots practice a take off or land our plane in our simulated Lapland Airport world - they need the practice now they have a 747 to transport Santa on Christmas Eve led by the reindeer instead of the sleigh!! ADDITIONAL ADULTS/CHILDREN CAN BE ADDED USING THE ADD ONS ON NEXT SCREEN.Deck The Halls 747 Christmas Experience- Come meet Santa in one of the UK's most unique grottos this festive session at The Deck 747- the top deck of one of the last ex BA 747-400 aircraft (fondly known as the Queen of the Skies) to be removed from service. Preserved at Barton Aerodrome, Manchester, the hangar our beautiful deck is at home in will be decorated from top to bottom in the hope that the man in the big red suit might come and visit! The perfect day or evening out for the whole family to get into the festive spirit!Our Deck the Halls experience lasts approximately one hour, where the children will be checked in for their Santa experience by one of the busy elves, go on a treasure hunt, be invited to get involved with the others in group games, crafts and competitions and even have the chance to get behind the controls in the original cockpit of the aircraft and help one of our Elf pilots practice a take off or land our plane in our simulated Lapland Airport world - they need the practice now they have a 747 to transport Santa on Christmas Eve led by the reindeer instead of the sleigh!! Don't forget to ask your grown up to take lots of photos and videos of you flying the plane!Our 747 deck has its original 14 business class seats in the cabin where groups of children and grown ups will be invited to take part in some onboard games with plenty of photo opportunities!Of course the whole experience wouldn't be complete without a potential surprise visit from Santa himself so we will be making sure you boys and girls sing and shout loud enough so he can find his way from the runway on the other side of Barton Airport, just in case he's brought an early gift for you before the big day- you have to make sure you have been very good between now and then though!There will be lots of sweet treats available for the kids and mulled wine, hot drinks and munchies for the adults to purchase whilst with us. Wrap up warm though as the hangar can get cold.This ticket permits two adults and one child over 5 entry into The Deck hangar and aircraft for the Deck the Halls experience as above. Additional children/adults available as add ons as you step through the process to choose your date and time. Children classed as 12 and under, however should you require a present for someone older than 12, please choose the child option and contact us by email on info@thedeck747.com to confirm any specific needs or requirements. Under 1 years old can come free of charge unless a present is required, if present is required from Santa, full child ticket should be purchased.Our Doors2Manual aviation shop will also be open throughout for those more aviation minded folks who want a good rummage through some hidden aircraft and airline themed memorabilia. You have also got the chance on this ticket to purchase one of our keep sake memorabilia aircraft tags- these have engraved on them "ive been onboard The Deck 747" and are made from a real piece of the aircraft tail of our 747. Our focal feature is of course the top deck of an ex British Airways 747 aircraft complete with original business class seats and cockpit with built in flight simulator.Our open day tickets entitle you to approx 60 minutes within the venue (feel free to stay longer if needed) where you can visit our suppliers such as catering, florist, DJ, venue dressing and more. You will even get the chance to have a short try of getting behind the controls of our 747 jet which of course is available to form part of the schedule of your big day. Our aviation shop will also be open and you will be treated to a glass of bubbly on arrival. Our bar will also be open on the day for drinks.Our base ticket is for 2 people, additional adult/child tickets can be included on the next screen.
