About the company
Carpe Diem Arts is dedicated to serving diverse audiences with quality arts experiences, representing a broad range of cultural traditions and artistic disciplines. Activities include after-school programs, summer arts and language immersion camps, community dances, concert series, monthly family sings, cultural enrichment programs and residencies in schools, ukulele classes, and performance opportunities for all ages -- in both the greater Washington DC area and Maryland's Eastern Shore. We partner with other area non-profits to expand our reach and deepen our impact, bringing the arts to life in ways that matter and make a difference in building stronger living-learning communities.
The Ukes on the Move project offers the spark to ignite the imaginations of young and old, while also providing the experience of success in acquiring a skill that is tangible and real. Lea Morris
Being a singer and songwriter is in Lea Morris’ blood. Her father was a trumpet player in the soul band Black Heat, which was founded by her maternal uncle (the late, great Chip Jones). Her mother and uncle were part of the Jones Family Gospel Singers, an a cappella group comprised of their seven siblings. Lea discovered the acoustic guitar at 13 and taught herself to play by writing songs. Lea is a lover of languages and a firm believer in the likelihood of extra-terrestrial life and all manner of psychic phenomena. Lea is the mother of three kids.
