Welcome to DOUGLAS VALLEY GOLF CLUBTHE GOLF COURSEIn August 1996 Douglas Valley Golf Club opened its 9 holes golf course, designed by local renowned course designer Jeff Shuttleworth and constructed by South African Craig Cooke who reconstructed parts of the famous Loch Lomond course in Scotland and the Valderama course in Spain. The course is built to US specification with pure sand greens, the only one of its kind in the area, the par 32 course features 3 purpose built lakes and the river Douglas splits the course in two which makes for interesting and sometimes challenging play, it is an ideal course for the beginner who can play safe or the more adventurous challenger. Never a more tranquil setting could be found in the area with the beautiful Pennine hills as a backdrop and littered with wildlife from Canada Geese to the ever illusive Deer which if you are very lucky can be seen from time to time.JOIN OUR MEMBERSJoin our Members in our weekly competitions held throughout the summer and compete for our somewhat fine array of lovely trophies, Non Members are also welcome to compete. As we are a Club affiliated to the EGU and the EWGA official handicaps can be obtained and maintained with our Club System Handicaping Programme.THE DRIVING RANGEDouglas Valley Golf Driving Range was built and the Company founded by the current owners in 1992 it now incorporates Chilli Dip Golf Limited, James Barr of Chilli Dip Golf leases the Driving Range, the Pro Shop and The Teaching Academy from the current owners and the Chilli Dip Teaching Academy is run by PGA Professional Phil Newnes.THE HAWTHORNSThe Hawthorns is situated on the beautiful Douglas Valley Golf course located in the quiet village of Blackrod, west of the West Pennine Moors. From our stunning garden and terraces we are very lucky to have some of the best views overlooking Winter Hill, a beautiful and well-known landmark in Lancashire.Our stunning venue is ideal for weddings and events due to having the perfect layout.The Hawthorns has two suites to offer to all our guests, The ‘Hedgerow Suite” is ideal for welcoming guests with drinks, canapés and a space to relax. Great little course

After recently taking up golf after a 12yr hiatus, I thought I'd give this course a go. Lovely little course, with enough for every level of golfer and really enjoyed my 18 holes. Green fees were fantastic too. My only criticism is the tees, greens and bunkers would benefit from a little tlc but I will definitely be returning

Really enjoyable course

As a beginner I find this course perfect, really enjoyable and a great vibe. Course in very good condition. Will be back probably for membership.

Great 9 hole course

Great course, in good condition. I played the course with my Mum (both beginners) and we had a great time. Will definitely be back, possibly to become members. Thanks!

Lovely course

Play here at lot and love it some holes very challenging some easy the course is in brilliant condition the groundsman has worked very hard to get the course looking so well

So much potential

Pros Course well laid out and really good for sharpening up your short game Decent driving range and club shop Cons Course very boggy quite often plug on the fairways Poor greens very bobbly Limited hole lengths not the course of you like to use your driver. Lead to believe the membership is going from 140 per year to over 200 - this is not justified.

Lots of improvements!

Definitely put some effort into tidying the course up, massive improvements from last year. Tidy and weed free bunkers (finally) and looks like there was some work done on the drainage on some fairways, it was rather waterlogged most of the time, lost many perfect shot balls just because it sank in the middle of the fairway on the 7th, all welcomed improvements. However i did not renew my membership as the price has doubled.

Greens need work

I play here a lot and the only downside to this course is the boggy ground but that can’t be helped due to the location and the greens too bobbly need to be nice smooth putting surfaces.
