A black backdrop delivers a clean, neutral look (though does constrain the amount of movement that’s possible to capture), and an acoustic drier than most churches produces a well-controlled sound. Jan uses a variety of pianists, many of whom are stalwarts of the opera scene in London and have played for countless auditions and rehearsals, so in general they turn up and play (though they do get the rep list in advance, so will practice anything that needs it).
