About the company

InfoI am a certified professional dog trainer that train's using reward based and fear free methods. With over 7 years working with and training dogs of all breeds, common and complex behaviour problems, I specialize in working with dogs who have fear/reactivity concerns as well as puppies. My training includes structured sessions that cater to your dog's needs and your families goals. What To ExpectAll new clients start with a free initial meet and greet via Zoom or phone call. These sessions are to get to know one another and be able to discuss the problems you are experiencing with your dog and set goals. After this session, you are able to book follow up Zoom consults, or a session in your home or back yard where we will begin some hands on training and design a plan to suit you and your dogs needs. After this session, there are more options such as one on one sessions with me and your dog for continued training. My CredentialsCPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed)FFCP (Trainer) (Fear Free Certified Professional Trainer)DCBC (Dogma Certified Behaviour Consultant)My StoryI grew up in a small town west of Lloydminster AB on a farm. I always had a passion for animals as a young kid and was lucky enough to live on an acreage where we had a wide range of them throughout my childhood. As a kid, I was bitten by a friends dog in their home as a result from accidently startling it when I walked into a room where it was sleeping. At the time, the bite instilled a fear in me and I was quite nervous around other people's dogs for a number of years. Fast forward to 10 years ago when my partner and I got our first home, I knew I wanted to get a puppy. We welcomed my dog Ben into our home and at the time were two busy, working professionals. Ben began showing behaviour concerns early on and he was very extroverted about his fear and reactivity. I spent a lot of time doing research on how to help him and gain knowledge for myself. After hiring private trainers to come to my home and quickly realizing they did not fall in line with my philosophies, I decided to take matters into my own hands and discovered a facility that ran an apprenticeship program. I immediately enrolled in their extensive, 16 month program and I never left the dog training world after that. Ben has overcome so much throughout our journey and I thank him everyday for igniting this passion of working with dogs nearly 10 years ago.2 years ago, we welcomed our second dog, Bodie, a rescue shepherd mix into our family and he is just the funnest guy who loves all dogs and people. I was determined to ensure he was well-socialized and made a commitment to raising him to be a well rounded canine. Our family loves to spend out time camping in the summer and enjoying nature with the dogs where Bodie can swim and where Ben barks at him for going too far. I look forward to working with you and your dog so you can experience a bond like I share with my two boys.Melinda Miller, CPDT-KA, FFCP (Trainer), DCBCMel's Dog TrainingHelping Train Rex
