I enjoy helping anyone who has a desire to learn, from beginner golfers to accomplished touring professionals and prides myself on being one of the best golf coaches in London.
Competing nationally in a good amateur career, I had aspirations to compete Professionally. It was a combination of a need to coach in order to fund my playing, and a want to find out more. I have always been very inquisitive rarely to my detriment, but none more so than in my playing career. My obsession to find more information on every aspect of improvement made the transition from playing Professional to teaching Professional seamless.
This obsession has lead me to undertake various qualifications, learning from figureheads such as Dr Sasho Mackenzie, Andy Plummer and Scott Cowx. We can't reinvent the wheel in golf, and players like Trevino, Snead and Tiger have been formulating different combinations of patterned movement for many many Years. "During my 15 years as a golf instructor, 10 of which have been teaching golf in the City of London, I have built a reputation as one of London's best golf professionals alongside my fellow Tee Box colleagues. My goal has been simple throughout this process: to educate myself to the highest level as a golf instructor to help my clients achieve their goals and train our Tee Box professionals to be the best in the country.
Despite the recent meteoric advancements in golf equipment, such as golf clubs and balls, stats show that the average golfer isn’t getting any better. To make matters worse, there has never been such a great divide between the average golfer and the Tour Professionals you enjoy watching every weekend, casually blasting 350-yard drives. Only adding to the frustrations of Mr Smith, still hitting 210-yard drives that regularly slice into the trees with enough effort to burst a blood vessel.
So why is this, as It’s pretty easy to purchase Rory Mcilroy’s driver at your local store, yet he’s hitting it 130 yards past you and much straighter? The blame has to be put on golf instruction and the industry. Our job is to utilise all of these new advancements in club and coaching technology to get you playing better golf and provide the answers to your frustrations, not vice versa.
As an aspiring Tour Professional, my frustration left me with many unanswered questions about the golf swing. My mission to answer these questions began by consulting with industry-leading experts in their related areas of expertise, such as TrackMan Data, Psychology, Human Learning, Course Management and many more. However, my main area of expertise concerning coaching golf is Biomechanics. This sounds complicated, but with regards to golf, it is simply the study of the body’s movements throughout the golf swing and the effect these motions have on the golf club. My name is Carl Morfoot, full-time instructor at Tee Box Leadenhall. It’s my job to help you get more enjoyment from the game you love. My objective is to improve your performance through the application of golf-related science, technologies, and leading coaching practices. It is my goal to translate the mountain of information on golf swing mechanics into actionable advice as it relates to your game. That’s it!
Who am I? Having competed at National level as an amateur, my obsession with all things golf grew throughout my formative years as I continually looked to improve my own game in any way possible. My progression into the golf industry led me to the University of Birmingham, graduating from the prestigious AGMS Degree in 2016, and turning professional in my time there. Since then, I’ve honed my craft at venues such as Quinta Do Lago, Verulam Golf Club, and most recently as Director of Instruction at Dinsdale Golf Club. In my career to date, I’ve developed players of all ages and abilities, from novice all the way through to helping playing professionals find the winners circle, as well as consulting with professionals on the use of new technologies and best practices.
The reason I coach is simple. The messages from clients about their longest drives, handicap reductions, and competition successes make the job so rewarding. While there’s certainly hard work involved (from both parties…), great friendships tend to be formed along the way too! "Back in 2017, I reduced my handicap from 24 to 3. I did this with a well-structured innovative improvement plan and dedication to achieving a specific aim. Through these 9 months of enjoying golf more than I ever had, I realised that learning and understanding my swing faults, how to correct them, and enjoying the process were the keys to success.
This rapid improvement spurred me to use everything I had learned to help others do the same, whatever their starting point and their end goal. According to several golf studies, the average handicap of a golfer is 18. This means around 50% of golfers struggle to shoot 18 over par. This statistic holds and has intrigued me ever since I started playing golf. Is golf really that hard? Why do people struggle to improve and sustain improvement?
In my personal experience, golf coaching can be repetitive and uninspiring. I strive to be the stark opposite. My golf lessons incorporate the best technology globally and are wholly bespoke for each individual I coach. Why does this matter? In short, we all have different golf techniques, different ways of learning and ultimately, different goals. I also want to promote an understanding of the psychological elements of the game and focus on positive outcomes rather than negative obstacles; learning to talk and think positively instils confidence in our ability. It does matter.
Above all, I love seeing the joy of a golfer learning and performing a level or two better after each lesson.
I am still adapting to playing in professional tournaments. I enjoy nothing more than winning and forever am researching, studying and training to find new ways to improve. It helps that whenever I have a spare minute, I am utilising Tee Box London’s practice facilities. This commitment does not only apply to golf. Whether it be working on my goalkeeping ability for the benefit of my football teammates or trying out new recipes to prove to my mum I really can cook, I am always trying to take a forward step and help others do the same.
Like everyone I coach, I aspire to fulfil my golfing potential. For me, that means performing well in high profile tournaments. However, we all know how great it is to take the swindle money on a Saturday morning, so I want to win anytime I am on the golf course.
