About the company

Welcome to the Professional Support Unit (PSU) where we aim to provide best practice in supporting and developing postgraduate doctors and dentists in training within Northern Ireland (NI). We work to support trainees and facilitate learning for educators across all NIMDTA training programmes.

The PSU endeavours to take a holistic and collaborative approach to provide trainees with solution focused support if they are experiencing difficulties which may impact on progression in training. These may include:

Performance and progression e.g. communication skills, exam failure, management skills.

Behavioural issues e.g. confidence, leadership, motivation, team working.

Personal factors e.g. dealing with stress, bereavement, family concerns, health issues and disability.
Environmental issues e.g. workload, bullying, difficulties with training programmes.

In addition the unit is a resource for advice, guidance and information regarding concerns for all parties involved in the education and management of medical and dental trainees.

The first step when you access the PSU is a 1:1 support meeting with one of our team. This meeting is essential to establish a plan for support which best meets your needs. The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss any issues and to raise any concerns you may have.

Please note that NIMDTA is currently fully operational, but in line with Public Health guidance staff have transitioned to working remotely and Beechill House is currently closed therefore your meeting will be facilitated by phone or by Zoom.
