About the company
Zest Hearing Care was opened at the beginning of 2023 in order to provide the best quality hearing health care in the East Midlands.
At Zest Hearing Care we understand the impact that hearing difficulties can have on your life, and the lives of your loved ones. We pride ourselves on working closely with you (and your family) to find a personalized solution that is right for you and your lifestyle.
To make sure that we can get the best solution for each of our individual patients Zest Hearing Care has access to all of the latest technology, allowing us to perform a more thorough assessment than you would receive from a typical high street hearing care clinic.
We also offer generously timed appointments to ensure that we can thoroughly understand your individual requirements and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.
If you arrange to see us for a hearing-aid appointment, then our state-of-the-art equipment also allows us to assess the true performance of your hearing aids when you are wearing them to make sure that they are adjusted just right for your ears and hearing. The difference that this can make is truly astonishing!
Above all though, at Zest Hearing Care we want you to enjoy your appointment with us, and to look forward to your next one. We will never use medical jargon (unless you want us to!) and will explain the process and your results in a clear and down-to-earth way. We also promise to maintain complete honesty and transparency and will never provide you with advice that we do not consider to be in your best interests.

Aphra Dowell-Jones
Aphra began her career in hearing care in the NHS over a decade ago, after completing her Masters degree in audiology.
While working in the NHS Aphra worked with adults with a wide range of hearing care needs, from those that were having their hearing assessed for the very first time, to those with more complex needs and a long history of hearing difficulty.
As well as working with adults, Aphra progressed to working as a Senior Paediatric Audiologist. In this position worked with children of all ages, from just a few weeks old all the way up to 18 years old. She found this work with children incredibly fulfilling and enjoyed seeing her patients social, educational and communicative development progress over time as their hearing needs were compensated for.
After many years of working in the NHS, Aphra moved on to work for an independent private audiology company. It was here that she discovered the huge rewards that come with longer appointments and a larger range of options for hearing enhancement, which allowed Aphra to tailor her recommendations to each patient’s individual circumstances.
In 2023 Aphra’s love of helping patients to lead happier, healthier lives led her to set up Zest Hearing Care, where individualized patient care is balanced alongside the latest technological developments to provide the very best solutions audiology can provide.

Ear Wax Removal
Zest Hearing Care offers expert ear wax removal in Daventry.
Ear wax removal can be performed by either irrigation or microsuction. Both methods are safe and efficient and are carried out by our expert audiologist.
Irrigation is most commonly used by GP surgeries, and in this procedure the wax is washed out of your ear with water. You might have heard this method being called "syringing" (although no syringes are involved!).
Microsuction involves a small tip being inserted into your ear canal and the wax being "vacuumed" out. It is often a quicker method than irrigation, but can be much noisier.
During your appointment your audiologist will examine your ears and will discuss your symptoms with you. They will also talk to you about any relevant medical history and will discuss the most suitable method of wax removal with you.
After your ears are clear your audiologist will continue to perform a thorough health check on your ears and hearing system to ensure that everything is healthy and working well.

When your appointment begins your audiologist will begin by talking to you about the symptoms
you have experienced and any concerns you have regarding your tinnitus, your ears and your
hearing. Your audiologist will then also ask you some medical questions to make sure that they have
a thorough understanding of your history.
After this conversation your audiologist will assess your hearing and ear health thoroughly, using
Otoscopy to assess the appearance of your outer ear and ear drum, Tympanometry to assess the
function of your eardrum and middle ear and Audiometry to assess your level of hearing. The
hearing test performed during a tinnitus assessment goes beyond a standard hearing test to check
your hearing outside of the normal speech sounds.
Your tinnitus will then be thoroughly assessed using a number of different methods to identify the
type, volume and pitch. Your audiologist will also ask you some questions regarding your tinnitus to
determine the impact that it is having on your life.
Once all of the tests have been completed you’ll have a chance to ask your audiologist any questions
that you may have - although you are of course welcome to ask them at any time during the
appointment! Your audiologist will also provide you with advice on options for managing your tinnitus in the future
such as tinnitus therapy or sound enrichment. Your audiologist will of course never pressure you to
make any decisions in a hurry and will be happy to answer any questions you think of at any time.
