ABOUT TEACHER
Joe has always loved foreign languages and began formally studying them at age 12 when he started Spanish class. He took Spanish and Latin in high school and won a summa cum laude award in the National Latin Exam four years in a row. He received his bachelor's degree at Umass Amherst where he studied Analytic Linguistics, Spanish, German, French, Latin, Italian, Proto-languages and the evolution of the English language. He went to grad school at the Manhattan School of Music, where he continued to study French, Italian and German.
Joe has been tutoring Spanish for 10 years now, and also works as a Latin and Italian tutor, along with teaching English as a second language. He loves to travel and seeing new cultures. He loves foreign language and spends his free time trying to learn new ones, he is currently studying Norwegian and Dutch! He has been teaching with City Speakeasy since 2015 and is head of the Spanish Department.

Hi! I'm Laura, daughter of Italian immigrants and I grew up on Long Island. I speak Spanish and Italian and lived in Spain for three years where I studied and taught English. I love learning new languages and hope to know five one day. I'd say the best way to learn a new language is immersing yourself in that environment. I teach language to help give learners new and exciting opportunities- the number of doors it opens up is countless.

I began studying French when I was 12 and moved to France when I was 18 to study at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). After graduating with a B.A. in transatlantic relations, I worked as a location manager for film and television productions in Paris. I then moved to New York, where I worked as a social media manager and content producer at the French Institute Alliance Française, while also teaching French at City Speakeasy. I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in film production in the Kinoeyes European Movie Masters. After graduating, I plan to specialize in French-American co-productions.

I've been teaching my beautiful language for over 18 years and nothing makes me happier to see my student come back from a vacation in Italia telling me how easy it was to communicate and how that made their experience so much more enjoyable! I've been teaching all ages and for all different reasons, some people want to reconnect with their roots, others need to learn Italian for work...no matter what, I bring a very unique and very effective way to learn the language. Doesn't matter if you've never spoken before (you'll be speaking with me at the end of our first session) or if you're fluent and want to keep practicing (I will help you with new vocabulary and idioms).
My sessions are fun because I believe the best way to learn something new is if you're truly enjoying it! I was born and raised in Italy and I have no regional accent because I'm also an actress and I've studied speech for many years, so my diction is very clear and it will be very easy for you to have a beautiful conversation with me!
I will be sure to improve your pronunciation as well as your grammar and vocabulary.
I've been teaching for Rosetta Stone as well for over 7 years and independently for over 18 years. I promise to make it fun (yes even grammar!) and I incorporate media such as videos, songs, blogs, articles, movies and food...yup! You have to know your food if you want to speak Italian so you'll walk away with some great recipes as well ;)
