Consultations consist of a placement test to determine which course is best for the prospective student. Consultations cost $30 and are available by appointment only, which are on a first-come first-served basis.

 In a work environment typically driven by deadlines, deliverables and measurable outcomes, there must be concerted effort on the individual and organization level to identify barriers and opportunities to understand and work through and across our differences. Starting with a high-level systems analysis, as a group we will engage interactive, experience centering our nature and nurture conditioning as the root cause of our own implicit bias. We will also take a look at our local demographics and cultural trends, followed by tangible action items for working across lines of difference

This workshop will serve as an introduction to concepts and various frameworks necessary to more deeply understand implicit bias. Attention will be spent evolving a clearer understanding of implicit bias, and its impact on personal dynamics. As a collective we will assess the ways in which implicit bias shows up in workplace dynamics, service delivery, and client engagement. Finally, participants will learn tools to minimize bias, specifically in relation to the populations most frequently in contact with, and strategies for strengthen relationships.

One aspect of diversity that is often overlooked and sometimes trivalized is age and the impact of this dimension of identity has on our outlook and behavior and interpersonal dynamics. Diving deeper beyond experience and maturity to better understand generational trends, can help us more intentionally reflect on the dynamics unfolding around us. The current workforce is more generationally diverse than at any other point in history.  Using these microcosm as a case study, let's unpack the impact and implications of generational differences and move towards the identification of affirming strategies to bridge the generation gap.

Our workplaces especially are faced with unique challenges during these times, as they serve as mini ecosystems, fueling the engine of our economy while housing the heartbeats of those who carry the mental, emotional and fiscal burden. This reality creates a unique tension for employers: the balancing act of meeting business and performance related milestones, while acknowledging the lived experiences of their human capital. This session will explore tangible tips and best practices for navigating seemingly conflicting demands and needs in the workplace.

Specific attention will be given to unpacking the relationship between various dimensions of our identity, the cycle of socialization and microaggressions as pathways to understanding and disrupting our unconscious beliefs and behavioral patterns.

Participant Learning Objectives:

●      Participants will learn tools to minimize bias and strategies to strengthen relationships.

●       Participants will gain a clearer understanding of implicit bias and the implications and impact on inter and intrapersonal dynamics.

●      Participants will gain tools to assess the ways in which implicit bias shows up in their service delivery and client engagement.

Participant Learning Objectives:

●      Participants will explore statistics and data points relevant to the impact of implicit bias on our human capital management, engagement and retention in the workplace.

●      Participants will be introduced to tools and strategies for assessing and mitigating their own biases.

●       Participants will gain a clearer understanding of microaggressions and their impact on inter and intrapersonal dynamics.

One of the keys to increased productivity in the workplace is ensuring the right combination of strengths and assets are reflected and cultivated on your team. This session will guide participants through applicable principles for:

1. Understanding individual communication styles and triggers necessary to facilitate impactful communication

2. Learning strategies for identifying and leveraging untapped strengths

3. Curating a culture of inclusivity in order to best reflect complementary aspects of diversity  

Too often passionate, dedicated staff and leadership teams fix their focus external to clients, partners with little attentional investment in cultivating a healthy culture of development and affirmation for staff. Curating environments which prepare staff for success should be the baseline for mission execution within any organization. Sustainability and longevity requires a deep commitment to interpersonal practices supported by management strategies which are inclusive in nature and intentional by design. This session will focus on helping team members develop/identify their professional guiding principles and curating a supportive environment for professionals, forging a path of least harm, deepest impact, and asset-based alignment.

Peculiar times call for peculiar measures. Organizations have always needed to be nimble in their approach to meeting productivity demands while navigating organizational capacity needs. Regardless of size, age and mission, COVID-19 has invited businesses and service providers alike to look deeply at their current impact and critically assess the viability of their management style and delivery model. As the current climate may amplify organizational deficits, insufficiencies and potential misalignment, there are tools, resources and lessons learned primed to inspire and equip those doing the most meaningful work. This session will serve as an exploration of impact with a focus on innovation in a time of crisis, building bridges during traumatic situations and positioning the organization for success from the inside out.

Service for testing system

Measures an individual’s ability to write in the target language.Consists of a series of prompts one would encounter in a variety of business settings.Duration: 1 hourAdministered in-person at TLC’s Nashville location or online with a TLC proctor.Available in 80+ languages.Results are available in two business days.Test fee: $100

Measures an individual’s ability to read the target language at the required skill level.Two tests are available: General and Legal. The general test has several passages with general topics: news reports, editorial articles, consumer issues, and articles or narratives about health, the law, and the government and military. Each passage is followed by a series of multiple-choice questions. The legal test utilizes the same structure as the general test but two of the passages are replaced with passages related to legal topics.Duration: 1 hourAdministered in-person at TLC’s Nashville location or online with a TLC proctorAvailable in 90+ languages.The test is automatically scored and results are sent by email to the individual’s designated recipient.Test fee: $60

Taxi Pro is a professional development course that covers working with people with disabilities, customer service, map reading, Nashville culture, landmarks, safety, and laws for driving a taxi.
Taxi Pro is required of all new taxi drivers in Nashville.
Before registering for Taxi Pro, all applicants must pass the English Language Competency Exam.

Avant STAMP stands for Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency and is a web-based test that assesses language proficiency. An Avant STAMP 4S test has four sections – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and the results of this test inform test takers and educators about learning progress and program effectiveness. Avant STAMP 4S test items are based on real-world, everyday situations. Avant STAMP 4S measures a test taker’s language ability according to Benchmark Levels that are based on national standards. Test results will indicate the level of proficiency achieved for each section of the test.
